I doubt Hopkins would be able to make 160.

Because Pavlik is slower with added weight. Look at the Taylor rematch (which Taylor won, IMO) -- Pavlik was slower than usual.

Bernard knew the extra 10 pounds was an advantage to him. Some of Bernard's biggest wins were against smaller guys who came up in weight. Tito, Oscar, Wright.

Smaller men with big names getting punished by a naturally heavier guy.

Bernard can no longer make middleweight without hurting himself. He stated this after Tarver.

Because he knew Pavlik would be at a disadvantage, be somewhat slower, with the added weight.

              slow down there...he wasnt robbed...

he was beaten in two close fights...not robbed.

but i do agree it would have been a movie worthy ending...

i dont think hopkins can make 160 anymore...only was is if he starved and forced himself down to 160 but at that point he'd likely get beaten due to the weight draining...especially at age 43...draining himself to 160 would have earned him a loss...

at 43 he needs every advantage he can get and hurting himself to get to 160 is not an advantage at all...

Maybe Pavlik's promoter didnt explore the possibility of the fight happening at 160, They could have called for the fight at 160 because they had the upper hand going into the negiotation table...but i think they thought both fight would just fight at a catchweight between 160-175..

I hope you're not laughing at my post. All I did was post facts. Bernard is good at beating up small guys. He looks great doing it.

It was partially a negotiation strategy by Hopkins. He might have been able to make 160 but would have had to cut a lot of muscle and he would've fought like **** at that weight. Especially now that he is so much older. He kinda knew that 160 is Pavlik's most effective weight so he bumped it up to 170 so he wouldn't have to kill himself to make weight and he would be much stronger.
