he wants to retire undefeated not embarrased..dawson is younger,stronger and faster..he's no kessler.and imo would overwelm calzaghe and probally stop him..tarver was on defense the entire fight and thats the only reason he saw the final bell had he let his hands go he wouldve been brutally ko'd mid fight

Tarver has a very good chin, I can't see anyone brutally KOing him to be honest, although he is quite old now.

i think the johnson fight taught dawson a lesson and he's gotten even better after that fight

Well Tarver is a counter-puncher, is slower than Dawson, and doesn't have the ability to throw combinations in the same way, so that's to be expected, but he was coming forward and looking to engage. If he was that defensive, he would've sat back a lot more, tried to goad Dawson into coming in and making a mistake etc. or just gone into a shell in order to survive.

I think Dawson is really good and Joe should fight him if he stays fighting. But if he wants to retire then fair enough. You'd think a Mayweather fan would understand that. Except Joe isnt retiring in his prime and ducking an entire division....

I'm not a calzaghe fan, but I don't think he really needs to fight dawson. Dawson is a relatively unknown guy who, prior to beating tarver, his biggest win may have in fact been a loss to Johnson. I'm just sayin, calzaghe doesn't really need dawson, maybe the other way around. Plus cazlaghe is 37 and dawson is a young 26 year old new champion. On the other hand, hopkins just beat a young 26 year old new champion which really boosted his legacy so much further.

With that said, I still think calzaghe needs another big win to cement his career. I mean, I'm just not satisfied with a split decision win over 43 year old hopkins, a win over 40 year old Jones (most likely) and Kessler. But it's his life, his career, his legacy so its whatever to me.
