Um....yes it does. When you make a direct comparison, its usually advisable to make sure the situations are the same.

Being a hot favourite who's expected to destroy his opponent then get absolutely massacred for 12 rounds has a much more demoralising effect than just getting outboxed in a fight you're expected to lose.

Sure...except when you're actually good, you can come back. Just ask James Toney...or the slew of other fighters who were heavy favorites and got their ass kicked. Like Lennox Lewis.

Again.......comparing James Toney at that time to Jeff Lacy. Slightly farfetched.

Lewis got cracked on the chin by one shot. I dunno about you, but I think thats more complacency than anything else. Much easier to come back more focused and put things right. Whereas taking an absolute beating for 12 rounds is not.

dirk i never said he needed to fight him..im saying maybe he's smart enought to know he should stay away from the guy

Just like Floyd was smart enough to stay away from any genuine welterweights?

Calzaghe's retiring at 37. Its hardly unheard of.

Except it happened twice to Lewis.

I really don't know where you're going with this except the point is, if you're good - you're good.

The proof is in the pudding with Lacy. Kessler can still prove himself.

Yeah he got lazy twice. He didnt come in and get battered for 12 rounds.

Where Im going is that I dont think we'll ever know how good Lacy could've been cos its hard to recover from such a terrible beating.

Whereas none of the names you listed had to recover from that.

He got lazy twice is your opinion, not fact.
Where Im going is that I dont think we'll ever know how good Lacy could've been cos its hard to recover from such a terrible beating.
Lacy's not that good to begin with which is why we'll never know how good he could've been.
Whereas none of the names you listed had to recover from that.
From bad beatings? Yeah, you're right. Clinton Woods and Julio Gonzalez didn't get beat up bad at all. Neither did James Toney.

Anyway, I'm done nitpicking so I can be involved in a cute argument. When you're good, you're good. When you're not as good...it shows.
