Having said that, Calzaghe himself admitted that he didn't sit down on his punches in the Hopkins fight. Not sure why, don't even know if he gave a reason.
dont think he really had to hurt Hopkins, he wasn't getting through with anything early on, so he just had to shorten his punches right up and get through with something at least. That's the only way he could win that fight, he was having a tough night. It was mostly pitty pat, the alternative was to keep it long like Pavlik and get ****d imo.

Roy was losing against Tito when he was fighting of the back foot, he lost those opening 4 rounds imo, then he started walking him down when he realised Tito couldn't hurt him. Joe can't let that happen. I think Roy looked good against Tito when he was pressing the action. If he doesn't feel Calzaghe can hurt him, it's a hard night for Joe and he probably loses. I think anyway.

Damn straight. It would be unequivocal proof that he's shot after the punches he's taken and didn't go down from in his career.

He probably didn't ever hurt Hopkins (though again, I wouldn't take Hopkins' word on that, he'd never admit it), but then Bernard is very, very had to catch flush with anything. The guy's a defensive master. He's been down in 1 fight, even then wasn't really hurt, and came back to win anyway.

Whether he (Calzaghe) can punch with some power shouldn't even be in question. You don't have the number of stoppages he has if you can't **** a little.

Also, he caught HOpkins with more than a single left. I saw a number of punches land, just never anything really flush except for maybe that left you're talking about, a few body shots, and I think he caught him with a right hook once or twice, none of those thrown with any readily apparent conviction.

If Calzaghe wasn't capable of hurting Hopkins, I think Bernard would've been alot more offensively oriented during that fight, rather than staying almost entirely defensive and throwing the occasional counter right. Bernard's no dummy. He stayed shelled up for a reason, and I think that reason(s) is that Calzaghe is fast enough to land if Bernard hadn't been as defensive as he was, and that if Joe had landed often enough, there's a chance he might've been throwing a heavier punch when he did land. Or I could be entirely wrong, and Bernard was so inactive because his conditioning wasn't what he needed it to be. He obviously gassed late, as evidenced by the faked low blow and the break he coerced from the ref.

Whatever the case may be, Bernard never came out of his defensive shell long enough to win that fight.

Watch old man Hop fight Howard Eastman for your answer. He was running around on the back foot in that fight for no reason. B-Hop has just made the mistake in being overly cautious in his latter years, despite being able to dish it and take it.

Yeah, he's been that way for years. You would've seen the same against Pavlik except...Pavlik barely threw anything.

Bull****. Read about how he prepared for that fight. Kelly couldn't get off for one just for the fact on how he was circling him.

That means jack ****. I can also show you punches of Cotto dismorphing Marg's face. He wasn't hurt one bit either, just the physics of a contacted punch.

Yeah, Marg probably wasn't hurt, but dammit, that guy is just ****ing tough. I mean really, really tough. Hell, that's why he wins. He can take as much or more than he can dish out, and he can dish out plenty, so he's willing to get caught with whatever he needs to in order to land his own, and it works brilliantly for him....at least for now. That **** will eventually catch up with him.

                    [EDIT]
Also, I think the point was to show that Calzaghe did land, but I do agree that he probably never hurt Bernard with anything that did land.
