Garbage. If you're not being hurt there's no reason to be defensive. An elite fighter goes in there and gets slapped around because he's too defensive minded, so therefore risks losing a fight even though the slaps don't hurt? What a load of crap. He didn't really hurt him properly, he "smothered" him with punches some were hard others were perhaps just distracting punches. He threw a few straight lefts and that right hook that moved B-Hop's head but they never really hurt him.

Then it's straight up embarrassing for an elite fighter like Bernard Hopkins to be slapped around and lose to a "girl" like Calzaghe, isn't it?

Yeah, but we're talking about Hopkins here, who, so far as he's concerned, has NEVER lost a fight (just ask him, or watch post-fight interviews), and wouldn't admit to being hurt by a punch from another fighter if his life depended on it. I wouldn't take his word about much, if anything.

Having said that, Calzaghe himself admitted that he didn't sit down on his punches in the Hopkins fight. Not sure why, don't even know if he gave a reason.

Because that would be a diffirent strategy then if he 'sat down' on his punches, and Hopkins would have made him look like an even worse amateur.



As far as Calzaghe's punching power goes, it's the same old story, but the correct one. His hands don't allow him to hit that hard anymore.

If you watch some of his older fights, he had some very good shots that hit homerun. Particularly his left hook was actually devastating when it connected flush and out of nowhere which I can remember he did quite a few times.
