clinching is a part of the game. difference in this fight than in the calzaghe fight was that hopkins was much more "active" in terms of fighting, to go along w/ the clinching......if hopkins had fought more, even though i still feel he got robbed against calzaghe, he would've gotten that decision to. but it wasn't the clinching, it was the "illusion" of fighting that gave joe that fight...
Cliching is but excessive holding isnt...

Hops clinched.held excessivly in the Pavlik fight...

I understand Taylor beat B-Hop twice but he could've easily lost those fights. They were both very close fights. But calling Pavlik a champion on paper is pretty disrespectful and ignorant on Taylor's behalf when Pavlik put Taylor's ass to sleep in the first fight, taking his titles and causing him to run away into his locker room like a little kid running home crying after getting his lunch money taken away and then losing again to Pavlik in the second fight. I just don't understand the gall in which Taylor is calling Pavlik a champion on paper. It was HIS titles that Pavlik took from him. I'd bet if B-Hop would have fought Taylor with the same intensity and style that he beat Pavlik with, he'd easily beat Taylor in their fights. Taylor in my eyes now falls in the same category as I put Calzaghe- JACKASS!!
Taylor doesn't have a history of being a trash talker, so I'm hesitant to rush to judgement on his comment about Pavlik. It's just out of place with any comment he's made previously, and even in this context he says "I felt bad for Kelly." To me it came off as him empathizing with Kelly as a fighter, knowing that a lopsided beatdown like that would make him feel like he were no longer a champion, even if you still hold the belts because the fight was at a catchweight.

I'm sure many people will accuse me of grasping at straws to defend Taylor, but the fact is that he is NOT your typical trash-talker. 99% of his comments to the media are him talking about himself - NOT talking about other fighters. He's an introspective guy and I am interpreting his comment in that fashion.

Comparing him to a loudmouth asshat like Joe Calzaghe all of a sudden is ridiculous. If anyone is showing himself to be a jackass by having the "gall" to say some ****** ****, it is you for equating him to the Welshman.

Actually the ref warned Hops a few times in the fight and Hops was penalized AFTER he was warned..stop listening to Harold Lederman..and think for yourself..He was told a few times by the ref to stop holding..and ALSO even once after the point was taken...he was told again. "STOP HOLDING"..

Kel did complain to his corner about being held ..."hE kEEPS holding me".. "I know Kel, you gotta double jab"..

also- Hopkins clinched/held about 100 times in that fight. I counted 10 times in round three alone.
I think I counted 163 clinches in the Calzaghe fight. I watched that **** slowed down several times and wrote a post on here after.

I started to count the hold and clinches by Hops in the replay of the Kel fight over the weekend. I counted 10 in round three alone, where Hops just grabbed Kel, sometimes w/out even throwing a shot.....sometimes while throwing shots he'd grab and hit and hold...

I think you guy who are talking crap about Jermaine need to chill. I think you are missing what he is saying. Hell Pavalik is a paper champ when you lose you are not a champ anymore. Just because I don't put a title up don't mean I didn't get my a** whooped and if I got my a** whooped I am not the champ.
