    Here's a fairer comparison:

Calzaghe was knocked down by Hopkins, who scored his last knockdown less than 2 years beforehand, against the iron-chinned Antonio Tarver, who was the recognized number 1 guy in the division.

Roy Jones was knocked OUT by Glen Johnson, who scored his last KO more than 3 years beforehand, against Thomas Ulrich. Who? Yeah, exactly.

Hopkins has also knocked down (and knocked out) the likes of Felix Trinidad and Oscar de la Hoya. Who else has Johnson put down for a 10 count? No one of that caliber.

Hopkins is an ATG. Johnson is not. Hopkins was a better fighter when he fought Johnson, and is a better fighter now.
I never said Johnson was or is better than Hopkins. I simply said Johnson is an underrated puncher and Hopkins has lost a lot of pop in his old age. Johnson, meanwhile, had scored 3 straight kos/tkos before the dawson fight in which he hurt the champ badly and almost had him out on his feet. It's not Glen's fault he doesn't get the fights. If he hadn't been ducked by a lot of top names all these years he'd probably have some more notable kos on his record.
BTW Tarver was knocked down by Eric "7 kos in 20+ wins" Harding. His "iron chin" is more due to his defensive style than an actual iron chin.

I love the fact that Hopkins hit Joe with his best punch and failed to hurt him and it is being held against Calzaghe.

RJJ is roadkill on Saturday night.

I want Roy to win as well, but I just don't know how to call the fight.
Joe has to be favored. Roy is technically a shot fighter while Joe is still going strong.

The Glenn Johnson vs. Jones Jr. fight is stuck in my head, but boxing/life is weird: sometimes for one day a miracle happens and the Old Man can give one last great fight.

I was starting to think that this fight might be setting up for something special...but that could be the heart over taking the thought of logical reason.

I guess it has to do with the Hopkins vs Pavlik fight: I thought Pavlik should win the fight but something told me on fight day, and I told this to my friend, that Hopkins is going to win. However, Hopkins had never been knocked out like Jones did, and twice, nor did he decline so bad. Hopkins was past his prime, but healthier than Jones has looked in recent years.

What Jones still has going for him is speed. Maybe power; I'm unsure. His power doesn't seem to be quite there but the simple reason for this could be that he doesn't put everything into his punches anymore...he is cautious and gets that hand back quickly to cover up. And he still hasn't shown me since the firsrt Tarver fight that he WANTS to win and Thinks he can win. If he can believe he can win and wants to win...knows he can win...then that will be a huge bonus.

If he hurts Calzaghe coming in, it will be interesting if Jones decides to unload.

There is a sad side to this: Joe losing might be bad. There will be a lot of "overrated" chants if he loses. I don't think Joe is a bad fighter...far from it; he is very good. So a loss might take that away. This is why I say if Joe loses, as long as it is from one punch and not from being dominated in a boxing match, he shouldn't be called "overrated."

The biggest upset would be if Jones dominates the fight and wins a U-decision or finishes it off with a KO. It wouldn't have been an upset if Jones was in his prime, but now, WOW, that would be huge.

I think the biggest problem for Jones is that he's not technically that great a boxer. Bear with me.

People are talking about how Hopkins can roll back the years and maybe Roy can too, but Hopkins relies on technical gifts whereas Roy relied on natural ones.

I mean, this is a guy that so heavily relied on speed/reflexes that he never even developed a proper jab. And when those gifts fade he's left with a limited boxing repertoire.

              Not a criticism.
