He's said it a couple times but, truthfully, I hardly take fighters at their word. Roy Jones has said Bernard Hopkins was his toughest opponent countless times then I read a recent interview where he says it was Toney. Come on, Roy...we all know it was Tarver.

Are you also forgetting the fight Hopkins pulled out of in 2002 against Joe, right at the last minute? It took at the very least 6 years for Joe to get Hopkins into the ring. Maybe Hopkins was waiting until Joe was out of his prime?
or maybe he was just waiting until the general public had an idea of who calzaghe was????

back then hopkins was a mw, calzaghe was a smw, and virtually unheardof over here, it was a lose-lose situation for hopkins. he wanted roy jones after trinidad.....

As a British man (I was born in the same London hospital as Big Joe) I am very proud of the fact that Joe Calzaghe has been a World Champion for well over a decade and that he has beaten the likes of Eubank, Reid, Hopkins, Kessler, Mitchell etc. etc.

However, I have to say that Bernard Hopkins is far superior.

Sadly he proved the other night that he would "never let a white boy beat" him.

wat are u talking about the White Boy already beat him soundly.

            Styles makes fights,

Pavlik has a somewat Tito style, and hes kinda slow.

The advantage that Joe had over Bhop is he was way faster.

wow some peolple are complete morons.

B-Hop will never beat Joe ( at least at his age).

B-Hop looked great against Pavlik was cause Pavlik was too slow for him. That is all.

B-Hop fought his fight, but hes style doesnt work with a guy like Joe whos too fast for him

this is why i hate Calzaghe..he's such a coward.

He's acting like he's pissed at Hopkins off being a jerk to justify him not fighting him..when really he's scared of losing since the first fight was so close and Hopkins is coming off a big win.

The first fight could have gone both ways, by no means does Joe have Bernards number..he looked like garbage in the ring. I had Bernard winning the fight. I'm sick of excuses.

i mean dont get me wrong B-Hop is a monster, but hes shown hes not the same boxer when he fought Oscar (not that hes was incredible during that fight, im just saying during those years leading up to Taylor), in the Joe fight his landing per round were rediculous
