Froch is that good? And for the other poster. I don't see how Lacy beats Jermain Taylor. Taylor fought a real close loss to Pavlik in the 2nd fight.

To "back out of a title fight" implies that he agreed to it in the first place.

To the OP: Taylor was in negotiations with Lacy for an HBO fight when the WBC made him the #2 contender for the vacant title against #1 Froch. HBO didn't want that fight because nobody in the U.S. knows Froch. Also, less money was on the table for the Froch fight than the Lacy fight. DiBella, Taylor's promoter, felt like Froch was the riskier opponent due to him looking dominant against lesser opposition but never having faced a top fighter before, making him somewhat of an unknown quantity, so they went for Taylor/Lacy instead because of the better risk/reward ratio.

Then the WBC, who had previously threatened Taylor with dropping him from their rankings if he turned down the title fight, announced that the winner of Taylor/Lacy would be the mandatory for the winner of Froch/Pascal.

If Taylor is good enough to "whip Lacy", he won't be getting KO'd by Froch.

I think Froch has massive potential. I'm prepared to be proved wrong and I accept I was mistaken if he turns out to be less than stellar at top level, though. It was when Froch turned pro when my older brother (a long-time boxing fan) made me aware of him. We've been keeping an eye on him ever since. I always thought there was something unusual and special about Froch, plus he's a big bastard with tons of power and a solid chin.

IMO, taylor beat pavlik in the rematch by 2 points, however controversial that may sound. I was on here claimimng robbery after the fight. LOL. I also think Pavlik got very lucky in the first fight when Taylor gassed out in the middle rounds. Taylor is a good fighter as far as I'm concerned. He has flaws, but some things he does are just beautiful. Good jab, great speed, too, just doesn't throw enough and looks a little scared. if he would work on stamina and letting his hands go he'd be truly among the elites.

Froch fans sound exactly like Pavlik fans, what with their promises of KO's over much more talented, more proven fighters.

"He'll KO so and so." That's their answer for everything. Because they know their guy isn't the fastest, isn't the best defensive fighter, and really has nothing else going for him except his power. At least not that he's shown us so far.

His biggest accomplishment to date is stopping a shot Robin Reid. Jeff Lacy did the same thing a few years ago. What's it mean? Not much.
