Hagler v Hopkins who ya got

Hopkins loses to Taylor and Calzaghe and he was old and shot. Now he's beaten Pavlik he's back to being a god.
It would be an ugly fight, but then it always is with Hopkins. If you don't fight his fight and come to him, then there is no fight. Marv is a different kettle of fish to Pavlik, though, and I think he's just too busy, too strong and too aggressive for Hopkins, especially if it's over 15.
no just a case of a great fighter performs when his back is against the wall and when he happens to be 43 its damn impressive
Hagler is not smart enough to impose his will upon Hopkins aggresion dont win fights against guys like Hopkins ring smarts do and Hopkins has plenty of that compared to HaglerComment

agreed
i just feel Hopkins style troubles him anyway i mean i dont think Hopkins has to fight in the era of black and white television to be able to stack up well in a match with HaglerComment

Hagler by decision. He wouldn't have been able to frustrade Hagler and Hagler was a good boxer/puncher himself, he knew how to rough people up so Hopkins wouldn't be able to do that to him and Hagler always had a plan A, B or C.Comment

I've always felt Hagler was a bit overrated. If he were fighting in this day in age he wouldnt be a Middleweight anyway. He would have sweated himself down to 154.
He was a smart, talented boxer in his own right to go with his power, but he wasnt as big, and at times was pretty slow. I can see Hopkins winning for sure.
against Monzon Hopkins would win no doubt in my mind.Last edited by -Antonio-; 10-19-2008, 09:31 PM.Comment

B-Hop looked impressive against Pavlik, but Hagler is a whole different story. B-Hop would' be able to break his will, and if he tried to do his **** like holding, rabbit punching, Hagler was a nightmare in that department.Comment

With Hopkins, it's down to whether you allow yourself to be drawn into his fight. Jones, Taylor and Calzaghe didn't allow him to do that, and they all won. I believe Hagler would have enough about him to stick to his own gameplan and win the fight on activity and aggression while Hopkins held, stalled, butted and generally ****** all the life out of the fight. Obviously a tough nut to crack, but I think Hagler has too much for him.Comment

As I've always said, this is a very close fight between two great, versatile fighters.
Both guys are complete fighters. Hagler was a terrific boxer-puncher with a great jab, good combos, heavy hands, good set of legs, terrific chin, nice parrying skills and head movement, and he could slug it out as well and fight on the inside.
Hopkins is a master of controlling the pace and picking his spots. He knows the angles and knows where to position himself to land good shots and avoid the incoming. Like Hagler, he is versatile. He can box from the outside using the ring, or maul guys up close and "stink it out". He has a big of dirty tricks to frustrate opponents. As proven throughout his career, he is very effective against lefties.
Hagler had the heavier hands, superior jab, and was more proven in the slugging/pressure department. Hopkins was a little quicker and slicker, and just has a brilliant fighting brain in there.
No matter how the fight takes place, I see it being very close. I doubt either guy gets stopped. Hopkins is slick and has a sound chin. Hagler's chin was great, and he didn't exactly have a soft body either.
Over the years, Hagler was developed a reputation as a face-first brawler from people who don't watch enough of his fights, but he usually boxed behind his jab and broke guys down over the course of the fight. It'll probably be a pretty tactical fight, and I see Hopkins winning a close decision, with his straight right hand being the key.Comment
