He might not have meant it. But Larry Holmes would have beaten Marciano. No doubts in my mind about this.

He was angry because the Marciano family was celebrating his loss but even during the post fight press conference Holmes quickly retracted what he said and gave Marciano credit for being a great fighter.

Yeah, said in his book he just said it out of anger, because everyone was just going on about how great the rock was, etc the rock's family.

I agree for his time Marciano was the better fighter. In Homes time there was no better then him. It is a shame for Holmes that Ali lasted so long though or Larry might have had more time to shine instead of carrying Ali's jock strap around.....Lefty

The Marciano family was not celebrating his loss. Holmes just said that to justify his "jockstrap" remarks.

He also said there would never be another white heavyweight champion, and that statement is clearly racist.

yea....that was kinda lame that Marciano's family cheered when Holmes lost and I think its even more lame that they robbed Holmes of the decision in the rematch as a punishment for disrespecting the great white myth known as Rocky Marciano!

              Holmes vs Marciano

Holmes would jab the shorter Maciano into a daze and then unleash that right hand, that many of his opponents have called..."the best in boxing history" and knock the Rock out inside of 7......in reality Marciano couldn't carry Holmes's jock.....fact! go do ya research and judge for ya self!

It funny, but Im reading his book right now and he doesn't sound nor come off like a racist at all. As an Italian American kid back in the mid 80's I took Holmes remark as an insult. Today I just see it as words from a misunderstood champion.

Did you watch the videos I posted earlier?

Peter Marciano said his family was relieved now that Holmes had lost. They were very happy and Holmes was very angry having lost that fight.

Holmes apologized for his statements afterwards. He never tried to justify it.

Well that much is obvious. He said it after one of the most controversial decisions that year.

Holmes took too much **** against Cooney to ever be called a racist.

Holmes got robbed of his victory and Marciano family celebtrated. I can see why he would make those remarks just being robbed in a fight and seeing that man's family celebrating your robbery loss.
