I respect Marquez, but I don't mistakenly consider him paradigmatic for what a boxer should be. A HW who fought like Marquez wouldn't make it far. He is technical, but in a style particular to lower weight classes. If he were bigger he'd fight in a more economical style.

      WHAT???

      haha.

In reality Sam Peter has underwear older than Calderon.

Sam Peter could probably swallow Calderon whole.

Nah he could fight like that for about 2 rounds before gassing out lol. But Marquez aesthetically is a diamond.

That's why I don't get P4P lists. As in it is theoretical, this guy could beat this guy, that's why he is number 1. I know there are other qualifiers but that is one.

So Pacman vs Pavlik.......lol. Pacman doing the same things if he was the same size as Pavlik. He would kill him,

I have said this before that Mexican warrior mentality doesn’t work well in the heavyweight division (no offense). With Arreloa saying he likes getting him in the face isn’t a good sign.
The thing about the HW division is that one lucky punch and the fight can be over.

            Here's an interesting picture.

DLH is 35, Calderon is 33, Wladimir is 32.

I too disagree. To say that Pacquiao-Marquez is gay but a heavyweight hugfest is manly is kinda messed up.

If you eliminate the "non-athletes" from the sport, boxing would cease to exist, atleast in any significant capacity. The biggest market in boxing is the hispanic demographic, Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, etc. Who was the last significant Puerto Rican champ above 160? Jose Torres? I don't know of any great Mexicans above that division.

If the hispanics have no one to identify with, they abandon the sport. That halves the audience. Why would HBO or Showtime shell out the kind of money they do per fight for a sport that just slashed half of it's audience? Why would Tecate Beer or Corona invest sponsorship dollars where there are no Hispanics?

                That would ruin the sport.

No, that is not a good strategy for a HW. No HW has ever won with his chin.

Seriously though: I may overstate all this just for fun, but there is a point. Watching different weight classes requires different eyes. After a HW fight I always see fifty threads complaining that the 260lb men didn't "let their hands go" like it was a 126lb fight. At HW you don't "let your hands go" because that will get you killed. And you don't need to land 300 punches to knock your guy out.
That certainly is not the case with many high caliber fights involving smaller men. Many great one punch or quick knockouts have occured in the past few months involving fighters participating lower than the Welterweight limit.

                    Juan Manuel Lopez
                    Yuri Gamboa
                    Jon Thaxton
                    Joel Casamayor
                    Juan Manuel Marquez
                    Breidis Prescott
                    Juan Urango

All have scored spectacular KO's and didn't need to land a trillion punches to do it.

thats not entirely true. look at someone like Povetkin. and then look at fights like Ibeabuchi vs Tua or Ali vs. Frazier. thats a lot of punches, and theyre decent sized heavyweights.
but I get what you mean.
