Earlier you mentioned Shavers-Cobb and Wlad-Brewster I. Those are exceptions that prove the rule. It's not how a HW fight often goes.

But you're right, Brew-Lyak and Klit-Lewis were the only real FOTY candidates from HWs.

The Thrilla in Manilla only ever happened once, and it was once too often.
Sanders landed one significant punch in the first round, agreed?

So do you feel that Klitschko-Lewis was better than The Thrilla in Manila? Boxing writers must annoy you when they call it a great fight but fail to recognize the awesome that was Klitschko-Derrick Jefferson.

eh, Wlad-Peter was ok. Wlad-Brewster was an amazing fight though.

          Refute this:

If you eliminate the "non-athletes" from the sport, boxing would cease to exist, atleast in any significant capacity. The biggest market in boxing is the hispanic demographic, Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, etc. Who was the last significant Puerto Rican champ above 160? Jose Torres? I don't know of any great Mexicans above that division.

If the hispanics have no one to identify with, they abandon the sport. That halves the audience. Why would HBO or Showtime shell out the kind of money they do per fight for a sport that just slashed half of it's audience? Why would Tecate Beer or Corona invest sponsorship dollars where there are no Hispanics?

          That would ruin the sport.

Huh? I didn't say that. Klit-Lewis was as much punishment as two 250lb pound skilled boxers can give each other.

The Thrilla in Manilla is one HW fight with the action of a lightweight bout, and the damage they did too each other was far beyond what any men should do in a ring

Oh, I misunderstood you there. I thought you were bagging on the Thrilla. I've heard MikeTyson77 or Tunney or one of the other interchangeable Klitschko fans say that the 70s heavyweights were garbage once. I wish I made that up.

Klitschko-Lewis was a damaging fight but I've seen much worse. Brewster-Lyakhovich being one, neither guy has been the same since. Gatti-Ward was also one of those fights where they left too much in the ring.

Rogelio, being an ardent fan and falling into the sport's most lucrative demographic, do you think that hispanics would lose interest in the sport if hispanics were no longer featured in the sport?

In the first place, I admitted I was overstating my case in order to introduce the point that different weight classes require different styles.

Secondly, it is a fact that the weight limits we go by in the 21st C. were established in the 19th C., when men were much smaller on average. They need updating by about 15lbs each.

Thirdly, I think many fans are turned away from boxing because the fighters are too small. I know many people who have told me this.

Finally, I don;t want to deny small men the right to fight. I'm a ********ic motherfucker. They have the right to pursue a career in boxing, like women have the right to play in the WNBA. But I don;t want to hear that bigger fighters are less skilled. They're as much as playing a different sport. We don;t complain that Shaq can't crossover dribble like Allen Iverson. So why do we expect Vitali Klitschko to fight like JMM. He doesn;t need to, and anyone it would get him killed.

Kayjay said Mexicans aren't real men. Are you gonna stand for that?
