Ring Magazine hasn't given the FOTY award to a heavyweight fight since 1996. I'm fairly positive that they don't have a featherweight bias.
Heavyweights have their appeal, which is dimmed in America because of the lack of Americans in the rankings. But to deny the appeal of the smaller fighters is just not plausible.
The lack of big-name Americans is a problem in all weight classes, as far as boxing's popularity in this country are concerned.
And most big PPV fights have been from 147-175. The fights below those weights appeal mainly to certain ethnic groups.

Years ago, I used to think the midgets weren't exciting but there are some great fighters there.
Think about those Vasquez-Marquez fights, JuanMa's spectacular Ko's, Nonito Donaire's destruction of Darchinyan, Somsak's battle with Monshippur, that's just in the last couple of years.
All these recent fights made me go back to youtube to watch some historical affairs that were brutal wars.
God bless the midgets for entertaining me.

True, but that only shows that the statement "The bigger the fighter, the better the fight" is flawed because wouldn't the heavyweight fights surpass the ones in the 147-147.
I'm Filipino/Italian/American yet I can appreciate the Mexican/Puerto Rican warriors of the lighter divisions. I have no ethnic tie to the hispanic community yet I find their fights to be the most exciting in the sport.

Is there a boxing scene down there?
Other than the occassional club show at the Pepsi Coliseum, nothing much going on over there.

And there's no more "skillz" there than in the higher weights. What you little boys mistake for skill is just off-balance arm punching.
What Pacquiao and Marquez do is flat-out gay, and they're the good ones. Bigger men need to be cautious because their opponents can knock them out with one punch. Slapping midgets LOOK more active because the punches don't do any damage. Those same strategies would get a cruiserweight or heavyweight killed every time. Why? Because they're facing genetically normal, grown men.
A man who weighs less than 135 pounds is not genetically normal, let alone potentially athletic.
