Kayjay, you've taken the words out of my mouth, anything below middleweight for me isn't worth watching unless it's a DLH or pacquiao fight. There's just no point. There's a reason why most people are turning to MMA and it's because no one wants to watch "children" fight when they can just put a pair of pillow gloves on their lil cousins/bros and watch em go at it, same thing you know. Fighters are supposed to be the epitome of badassness in the general publics view. The stereotypical view is that they're big, mean n lean mother****ers, who can rip your heart out. Which is why it's hard to take a 130+ lb boxer seriously, no matter how much heart/skill they have. MMA fighters and heavyweight boxers, on the other hand fit this stereotypical mold. The only reason the lower weight divisions shone in the past were because of guys like hagler/duran who didn't weigh much, but still brought a intimidating presence a la prime tyson, to the ring.

Not saying I'm an MMA fan, I still like boxing, but come on people be honest...if you came across 5'5 naseem hamed in real life, would you really be intimidated??? I doubt any guy over 200 lbs would.

    no ****, of course

    • And hey I agree below 118 it gets harder for me to enjoy the fight, but thats because below that area the guys actually are abnormally small.
I had a friend who weighted 127, which is about what BW actually weighs, nobody ever considered him abnormally small.
Maybe its a condition these guys who are over 6 foot 3, or really fat get where they think they are of normal size.

I'm 6'0" 195 lbs. I'm the smallest man in my family, and my friends make fun of me because I stay under 200 lbs the whole time. These are not fat people. They are athletic men from 6'2" to 6'7" and 220-260. If a guy less than 150 tried to act tough around us, no one would even look at him. That's the same as a girl running her mouth.

That's what I mean when I say watching little men is like watching the WNBA. The women can dribble and shoot, but they have to have their own league to compete. Same with the little men: they can learn to box but it only works against other little men.

Thats great bro, I am about five ten, 180. Doesnt change a thing, we are both above average in height and weight, you more so than I.
Doesnt change the fact that there are tons of guys under a 150 that can beat the **** out of you and your friends, like probably millions, these 125 pounds boxers among them.
I understand what you mean, I would fight Ivan Calderon any day, but that doesnt change the fact that little guys beat the living hell out of big guys all the time.

The reason people are excited about mma is because it's new and exciting due to the good match making. boxing is almost through the bad cycle. Everything has it's cycle. You will notice things turning around in the sport of boxing in the next few years. New fighters, new rivalries and most of all better match making. Believe me, the boxing promoters have been watching what mma has been doing. MMA has figured what works and now the boxing promoters will follow. That's good match making. Styles make fights!

Wonder what the average height and weight in the US is now.
People are getting taller and weighing more it seems.

              I wouldn't think 5 feet 10 is particularly tall.
Seems like that would be average nowadays.

I hope you're right, but I think the matchmaking has gotten worse in the past year or two. For a minute it looked like promoters were learning their lesson, but it seems to have slowed.

This fall for instance is classic boxing promotion: mismatches involving faded champs against younger guys, size mismatches, etc.

                  • REAL MEN don't go about whining and dissing what other men want to watch. It makes them look like insecure little girls.
