Boxing Myths (Fact-Based)

To be honest Toney was humiliated by Peter in their rematch but he was old and fat.

Many still say that Henry Cooper was cheated against Muhammad Ali but I have never seen any proof of it, certainly not on video.

Liston, supposedly, may have also blinded Williams, Machen and Folley (according to Bert Sugar) but again, I have never seen any proof of that happening. Liston got rid of Williams and Folley quickly, Machen went the distance.

Another myth is that LaMotta was never down in his career, he was officially down against Danny Nardico although you could make the case that it was as much a push/loss of balance as it was a punch. Slip or not LaMotta was tired and close to being KO'd.

Hagler was also officially down against Roldan but it was a slip.

Chuvalo tasted the canvas against Oscar Bonavena but it was a punch followed by a push so the referee didn't count it as a knockdown. Chuvalo was visibly shaken though.

I don't think he was humiliated but he def. lost. He was way past it by then. I mean look at their first match, he did really well. At that point you gotta just go with age causing a huge slippage. But I even mentioned the Peter fights, that's pretty much as close to as you'll ever see him being "humiliated" other than Jones.

Another one I always hear is "Mike Tyson had such a mean pre-fight staredown that he used so well to intimidate".

He did that **** like one or two times his whole career. Most notably, the Peter McNeeley fight. The great majority of the time, he looked to the side, when the referee gave instructions to the two fighters. It was certainly a rare exception when he looked at his opponent's eyes and tried to intimidate him through a stare.

This time you're just plain wrong. Carl Thompson (the only person to have KO'd Haye) weighed in at 198 in their fight and was the reigning IBO cruiserweight champion. Therefore he was a cruiserweight and not a super middleweight when they fought.

This is getting tiring. It is impossible to know who would have won that fight.
