Once again Dirk is still butt hurt from the other threads. Yes you idiot- Roy was obviously still in his prime by the 2nd Tarver fight.

Do you even watch boxing, or just jerk off to Union Jack flags and Steve Dunce?

Myth: Tye Fields lost by first round kayo to Monte Barrett

Fact: He beat him so badly it opened a space/time singularity that reversed the event. In reality Tye Fields is 200 - 0 (KO 200).

The truth is Roy was past his best well before the Tarver fights, he was just that good that he was able to carry it through for a while. If you watch the Clinton Woods fights especially you can see that he is starting to slip.

FWIW I don't think there is a fighter in the history of the sport that could have beaten prime Roy at 168 - he was just absolutely incredible.

Prepare to be called an "idiot" by Dirk. And also since I apparently "hate Brits" I should be attacking you now for this nonsensical post.

Except of course....everything you wrote is true.

It is dude. I don't mind what I'm called, I'm pretty comfortable in my own view on things and am fairly confident I make my opinions absent of bias. I like the British boys too, Eubank and Benn particularly.

But the bottom line is Roy was so good it was a joke in his prime at 168. The speed, power, reflexes, intelligence, pure natural ability, i can't think of anyone that could have beaten him. Weight-drained or not, Roy made the legendary Toney look like a joke in there, you tell me another fighter that could have done that.

None in the modern era. Some ATG like Robinson. Someone like that who had a great outside game could have done it. But then you notice how great Roy has to be when you compare his ability to Robinson's

Yeah I'm a big Robinson fan but I don't know if he would have been big enough to beat Roy. He was pretty much a natural welter, Roy's size and speed advantages would have been pretty tough to overcome.

I remember the first time I watched Roy's fight against Toney, just incredible.

You know what's great about Toney. If you watch his fights, like against Griffin and Thazdi, he's never decisively beaten. I mean even fat, old, injury worn peter against a guy as big as Peter was never beat up or decisively beaten.

Only time I ever saw him humiliated was against Roy. Pretty much, James Toney was too good to be humiliated by anyone other than Roy.

Have you seen Toney's sparring videos? They are awesome to watch. He does so much subtle stuff it's incredible. I recommend his sparring video against Green. Great stuff.

Yeah I have a James career set and there is a bit of sparring stuff on there, just incredible skills.

I think you basically summed it up perfectly. That is literally the only time in almost 80 fights that Toney was decisively beaten and outclassed. It is very rare that a fighter manages to completely dominate a prime ATG in that fashion. I still don't think Jones gets enough credit for that win.

To be honest Toney was humiliated by Peter in their rematch but he was old and fat.

Many still say that Henry Cooper was cheated against Muhammad Ali but I have never seen any proof of it, certainly not on video.

Liston, supposedly, may have also blinded Williams, Machen and Folley (according to Bert Sugar) but again, I have never seen any proof of that happening. Liston got rid of Williams and Folley quickly, Machen went the distance.

Another myth is that LaMotta was never down in his career, he was officially down against Danny Nardico although you could make the case that it was as much a push/loss of balance as it was a punch. Slip or not LaMotta was tired and close to being KO'd.

Hagler was also officially down against Roldan but it was a slip.

Chuvalo tasted the canvas against Oscar Bonavena but it was a punch followed by a push so the referee didn't count it as a knockdown. Chuvalo was visibly shaken though.
