For periods in that fight I saw Trinidad backing up in a fashion that I had not seen him do before. While Hopkins boxed intelligently most of the fight there were times when he fought forward and imposed his size and strength advantage over Trinidad like no other Tito opponent had previously been able to do.
Do you give credit to Hopkins for beating Tito?

I'm not saying the size advantage was the determining factor, I just argued against that point with abadger on the previous page. Hopkins definately outboxed Trinidad and fought the perfect fight to beat Trinidad in the stylistic sense. For this he deserves a huge amount of credit. Having said all that to say that Hopkins clearly being the bigger man had no impact on the fight is not true.Comment

By the way, Pernell was also able to make Tito back up. Pernell landed some serious body punches and straight leftz to the head. By that he didn't impose his size. If for example, B-Hop would of gotten on Tito like Hatton does all his other opponents at 140...then you can say he imposed his size but that NEVER occured.Last edited by El Dominicano; 10-02-2008, 06:01 PM.Comment

Maybe, I've watched it a few times though and I do think the size advantage played a role. Obviously BHop didn't monster him with his size and use it to dominate the fight but I think the fact that he had a size and strength advantage helped him to effectively implement his fight plan.Comment

Hopkins never used his size advantage in the fight, he used lateral movement, His Jab and counter shots to break tito down. the last round i think was the only round where bhop came forward.
Maybe Hopkins size advantage helped him boxing tito's ears off but there is a clear difference between having the advantage and using it.Comment

Of course.
It's easy to say afterwards "oh Trinidad was too small".
Trinidad was a 3-1 favorite, top 3 p4p fighter, and had just destroyed the consensus second best middleweight on the planet before this fight. I still think he could've done good work outside of Hopkins and beat most middleweights out there.
Hopkins completely schooled Trinidad. Beat him outside, inside, mid-range, etc..
One of the best performances of the decade.Comment
