Actually it was Williams' people that turned down the Pavlik fight (over money of course). This is what caused Arum's current animosity with Haymon. Check it out and you'll see I'm right.

I believe that Williams would give a good account of himself and at least go the distance. When they were negotiating the fight I was going to give PW a good look if the odds were right.

As to your question specifically, I believe Williams would have taken the fight if they met his price. But he wasn't about to step in that deep without getting that number. IMO Arum was sure Pavlik would win and was looking at it as strictly a business proposition.

The thing was that the Pavlik fight was meant to be an HBO fight, and there wouldn't be enough money left to satisfy everyone if Williams' price (reportedly over 2 million) was met.

I just don't see why people got a problem with Paul Williams. This dude is doing what other WW, Super WWs, MW, Super MWs aren't doing. He's got talent, a championship and calling people out. That's how a true champion acts, and he sees other champions commenting bout being the best WW, so he feels he wants to defend his own title saying that he is the best WW. Quintana schooled him first fight, that reach and height aint mean **** to him.
