the best thing about joe's resume is that he's still undefeated after all these years... that's about it. its arguable that that makes his resume great.
    Excuses for what? Winning?

I agree that Joe being undefeated is a huge plus, its precisely the point of this thread.

excuses for not making big fights when it would've counted for something.

being undefeated against mediocre competition, and a few good opponents isn't hands down great. that said, all I need to see him do is fight and win against pavlik and the winner of tarver/dawson and then i'd call it legitimately great.

If you really want to get technical. Calzaghe sucks he can't even throw a punch correctly. It's now he decides to fight hopkins and roy jones. Gamboa would outclass him and destroy him.

I agree that Calz hasnt faced the highest level of opposistion, but at least he hasnt lost to them.

Jones has a good resume but he also lost to Tarver, and Johnson by KO losses. That has got to take a little bit of sparkle from his greatness, considering I believe that Calzaghe would beat the versions of Tarver and Johnson, Jones fought.

Look at Wlad. The best HW there is, but he has lost to some awfully weak opposistion.

Your resume isnt everything if you dont have the record to back it up.
I've never heard either of their names come out of his mouth for serious consideration for a fight. It speaks volumes to me. And let's not forget he had an opportunity to get a crack at Johnson just before Roy did but balked at the opportunity.. not once ..but twice. Who could blame him though. Feather fists wasn't gonna keep a durable LHW Glen off of him.

James Toney beat Michael Nunn, Julian Jackson, Simon Brown, Maurice Blocker, Terry Norris and some others. They were all in their prime. All were REAL Champs who won their belts in the ring.
