As much crap as Jeff Lacy takes, he is still a guy with just 1 loss against the #2 p4p, and he's never been stopped. Everyone knows he's looked like **** his last few fights, but that still doesn't change the opportunity he offers Jermain.
If JT wants to electrify his fanbase and send a message to the division, he HAS to stop Lacy. HAS TO. Or at least put him on the mat a few times.
Even if he puts on a clinic for 12 rounds, I don't think that proves anything without a KO to cap it off.
We all know JT is the superior boxer. We all know he can win a decision. Nobody is going to tune into this fight hoping to see these two hug each other for 36 minutes.
What we need to see is something we haven't seen from Jermain since 2005 - a stoppage. A stoppage against a guy who has never been stopped before.
Lacy is the perfect opportunity for this, because as he showed in his last fight against Mendoza, his chin is there for the taking. He's begging to get KTFO.
Like I said, if Jermain can lay even half as much leather on Lacy's face as Calzaghe did, I think Lacy goes down. I think Jermain knows this, and it's probably why he took the fight - he knows his career needs a knockout win.
