Merchant took shots at Floyd Jr last night.

Did anyone hear when Lampley mentioned Floyd as being the top dog at WW, and Larry came back and said "only problem was he wasnt fighting any WW's" LOL. Lampley then came back to defend Floyd by saying "he fought other fighters regardless of thier weight-class"

I think they sidelined Merchant because of his tendency to speak his mind, which is a no-no when you're in business. He's the only journalist on the crew and is stuck in his truth-telling ways.

What Merchant said was actually true, but so was what Lampley said, so HBO's coverage achieved perfect balance and fairness.

It doesn't bode too well for Kellerman then, who it seems to me is trying very hard to make speaking his mind his 'gimmick'. Kellerman does seem to aim his potshots in the direction of the sport itself though, whereas Larry much prefers slating individual fighters.

Kellerman is extremely knowledgeable about the sport, from what I've followed of him. He may be trying to find his footing as a commentator, following in some very difficult shoes to fill.

The difference between his and Merchant's potshots are that Merchant's aren't choreographed, they're instinctive, whereas Kellerman's are mainly parts of his afterthoughts.

Well when come to think of it, he didnt neccesarily take a shot a Floyd. He stated the truth. Lampley's response was also true.

What I dislike about society is that anyone who is critical of another (which is the media's job) is quickly perceived to hate someone or is being a bully. Maybe Merchant just disapproves of the course his career took, which is his prerogative and duty.

Its from the time Floyd went absolutely ape**** at him in the post-fight interview, I can't remember what fight it was, Baldomir maybe, but Floyd basically told Merchant to go **** himself. Prior to that Merchant merely disliked the pretty boy.
