I've FINALLY gotten over Cotto losing to Margarito. Reason why he lost:

Denial. But I accepted the defeat the moment Cotto took a knee. But getting over it was the hard part.

Marg was planting his feet and gutting Cotto when he could connect. Mostly, he missed...but he did hit Cotto enough to make him run.

Anyone here play baseball? Ever been fooled by a slow pitch? Marg's punches was slow....it threw off Marg's timing when he covered up. He was used to fighting guys faster than him. By the time he thought Marg's punch had missed - BAM! Even if it was partially blocked, it had some impact.

Just watch the later rounds when Cotto was on the ropes and he would put up his gloves to his face. He waited for that impact to land too long. He even leaned into his gloves as Marg punched his guard.

Also, Marg's head was on a swivel. By rolling with the punches, the impact wasn't as great. Cotto was hitting him all night and Marg's head looked like a bobble head. Like an oak tree vs the wind, always bending to the punch, never breaking. Ironically, Marg goes by the name of Tornado.

Margarito is a sneaky slow fighter that will walk you down like the Terminator. The only guy that knew his timing and was able to handle his onslaught was Joshua Clottey.

And Ricans are still bitching about it. This will top the Salvador Sanchez beating the **** out of Wilfredo Gomez.

            Great post.

You make extremely salient points. The bold in particular is important because when people mistake Margarito as an unskilled defensive fighter they are making a fatal mistake.

He rolls punches great and also catches them on his gloves great (see Williams fight) so he's not always getting hit as clean as people think.

            Green kaye worthy post meing.

Even if he did, Cotto had a ****ty game plan regardless.

Personally I think he would have lost either way because for Cotto to win he needs to be on the front foot to exert some force and have his opponent concerned about his power.....he will never be able to do this with Tony.

Cotto lost because he doens't know how to clinch.
He fought at a crazy pace every second of every round when he
could have clinched to preserve his energy and prevented margy from
                  getting off.

He lost cause he can't clinch, nothing more.

You mean hope and pray to god that Margarito comes in weight drained like Mosley did? Yeah.I guess that could work.

Cintron stood up to Margarito in the rematch....didn't get him too far,did it?

When Cotto lost to Pacquiao , I realized something , 'posters' in this website , rank on Cotto , diss Cotto , say all kinds of **** , but when u look at it , he got 2 losses , 1 to Pacquiao at his best , which is ****ing crazy. And one to a cheater , we can only assume he cheated against Cotto. And even if he didnt , Margarito was pretty ****ing good , and huge compared to Cotto , Reach advantage , size advantage , Mexican heart. That alone is hard to beat , so I can only look at Cotto and say WOW!!! this guy has balls , this guy is a warrior , this guy faced the best , this guy tried his best , this guy tried to be the best , BY ACTIONS , NOT WORDS!!!!
