I think it was due to his inactivity...plus he was starting to lose interest. It's funny because at times Quartey would get the fire in his eyes and look invincible for a little while.

His inactivity was due to a loss of hunger.

I have heard that part of his layoff was due to a bad bout (is there a good one?) with malaria.
      Probably just an excuse.....

Yeah...I mean he fought like what, 4 times in the last 3 or 4 years leading up to his retirement? He basically shifted his attention to his family and affairs in Ghana. I've never heard the malaria angle. If it's true that's pretty sad however.

What does that say about De La Hoya?

I agree, Ike takes Kostya to school and KOs him in the middle rounds. Ike beat DLH hands down IMHO. That last round was not the deciding factor; fights are scored to where one round can't influence the other rounds meaning if you slightly win a round it counts just as much as winning it flat out (10-9, for example, either way) and then the next round is completely independent from all the prior rounds. Ike had won at least 8 rounds in that fight.

The fight was on the table in the 12 and he absolutely beat the **** out of Ike, imagine the situation was reversed, Quartey knocks Oscar down twice and in the final round scores the biggest round of the fight for either guy. People would never let Oscar forget that, Knicksman Quartey didn't win that fight, he fought great and actually had Oscar seriously hurt in the sixth, but he was completely beaten down in the 12th and when that happpens in a fight of that magnitude there is no way in hell you can go with Quartey.
Refer to what I said previously. I gave Oscar a 10-8 round in the last round and still had it scored for Ike.

I agree!!! Ike beat Dela Hoya & i think he would've lowered the boom on "The Thunder From Down Under". Kosta has a tendency to freeze up when he gets hit hard. Seen it in his fights with Leija,Judah,Mitchell, & Philips. I saw the fight woth Philips & Ike & Ike destroyed him.

                Quartey all the way....

Quartey hurts Kostya....bad. The rat-tailed Russian pops his head up and holds it there when he gets hit square. Quartey would stun with a jab and lower the boom with the right hand.

Is this Ike vs. Kostya in their prime or right now at 140? If it happens today Kostya would win by UD or late TKO. Ike has been inactive too long. But Ike in his prime would have given Kostya all he could handle. He had enough power to hurt Kostya and would have made this fight a total war.
