Taylor is definitely a product of the town he grew up in. It's hard to explain, but looking at him I can see the effects this town have had on him, from his initial drive and toughness stemming from growing up in a rough neighborhood with a bad family situation at the height of Little Rock's gang problems when our murder rate was among the highest in the country, to his recent complacency from being the big fish in a slow, extremely kind Southern town that has a low cost of living and extreme loyalty for local celebrities, especially athletes. That makes it easy for him to live like a king here with a pretty laid-back lifestyle. Not exactly ideal for a boxer.

Add on the fact that he is such a naturally gifted athlete that would've succeeded in whatever sport he'd applied himself... and self-aware enough to know that he was able to get by on that talent for a long time. Too long; long enough to delay his development of the specialized boxing skills it takes to survive at the elite level. Long enough to rely on his athleticism instead of working on enhancing his ring-intelligence.

But I will continue to be a fan as long as he continues to be one of the nicest personalities in the sport while simultaneously taking on tough competition every time out.

The critics were harsh on Taylor, especially people from his home turn turning their backs on him. Obviously some of his wins were less than convincing and controversial but he still got good wins on his resume and he never ducked nobody.

Taylor performances against Hopkins were not too good but to be fair it is impossible to look good against Nard. To be honest i felt the perfect result for the first fight would of been a draw and one of the judges scoring the last round to Taylor pissed me off. I felt he was more given the win in that fight rather than earning it.

In the second fight i felt his performance was worse although he did do better in the later rounds i felt he should have lost that one. I felt Hopkins won 115-113.

In my opinion Calzaghe's win over Hopkins was more convinceing than both of taylor's wins over B-hop even though i thought bhop edged it in the calzaghe fight 114-113.

What impresses me about Taylor was his level of competition since winning the title.

A hopkins rematch, Winky Wright, Ouma, Spinks then Pavlik. Not bad at all.

He had bad performances but the taylor that fought Pavlik the second time has showed alot of improvement and i think he will be successful at 168.

Calzaghe's performance against Lacy put him on the top stage... that was his first big fight.

He also had a good performance against another really good fighter in Kessler.

Taylor has not looked good, or lost against every single fighter he has fought since he stepped up to championship level fights. Maybe you could make the argument that he looked okay against Ouma, but... that's still a decent performance at best against a 154 pounder.

Calzaghe has dazzled us at least once, and Taylor has not.

that may be true, but lets not forget taylor is still in his late 20's, and joe has a jump on him in terms of time in the sport to do that dazzling! i feel the best of taylor is yet to be seen.

If Lacy crushes JT then it's over.

What are you talking about? Are you saying that there's no possible way Lacy could stop JT? Are you saying Lacy has no power? Before you open your mouth think...

Lacy is completely done. He is now the equivalent of a B level fighter. He doesn't belong in the same ring as Jermain Taylor.
