the spinks and ouma fight weren't his fault. they were many steward's. he's not meant to train gifted fighters like taylor and wlad. he is a good trainer only for those who have no natural physical gifts cuz he can teach them to box, whereas he turns naturally gifted fighters into boring careful fighters.
How can it logically be said.......

I've been a Calzaghe fan since he beat Eubank back in '97 and the only other guy I've ever heard him talk this much smack about was Robin Reid. That fight was made and was arguably Joes toughest fight, maybe the Pavlik fight gets made too.Comment

Actually.. Steward used to be known for producing hard hitting OFFENSIVE minded fighters.. Kronk Is where you went if you had heavy hands and liked to back people Up.. Think Kelly Pavlik.. or Manny Paquiao.. 2 guys who in the past would have perfect for Steward..the spinks and ouma fight weren't his fault. they were many steward's. he's not meant to train gifted fighters like taylor and wlad. he is a good trainer only for those who have no natural physical gifts cuz he can teach them to box, whereas he turns naturally gifted fighters into boring careful fighters.
What Happened is Lennox Lewis.. His success with lewis made him an specialist all of sudden with tall jabbers possesing shaky chins..
and that is it in nutshell..

jt is the definition of what you see is what you get...a tough kid from little rock who has good speed and a big heart, far from overated if you ask me he's underated// his only problem is he doent listen to his corner..why?because he's a street cat a fighter when he gets hit the game plan goes out the window and his killer instinct comes out..i use to not like his( because i felt they robbed b-hop of his title)but you gotta love jtComment

I dunno larry after he won the title Taylor was pretty passive. Where was his killer instinct against the smaller Ouma and Spinks? Why didn't the "street cat" bust up the lighter hitting guys? I think Taylor caught Hopkins at the right time and got very lucky against Winky. If Lacy stops him then I think Taylor's probably done.jt is the definition of what you see is what you get...a tough kid from little rock who has good speed and a big heart, far from overated if you ask me he's underated// his only problem is he doent listen to his corner..why?because he's a street cat a fighter when he gets hit the game plan goes out the window and his killer instinct comes out..i use to not like his( because i felt they robbed b-hop of his title)but you gotta love jtComment

I think it all starts wit B-Hop. Before that fight Taylor was everybody's pet and the next great star. When he failed to win decisively (or at all dependin on who you ask), people **** on him cuz their expectations fell flat. Whether they liked him or not, I think most people respected Hopkins and woulda preferred a decade long reign to end emphatically if it was gonna end. People resented Taylor for those wins, admittedly myself included at the time. Then he got more chances and despite some excitin performances (Winky and Pavlik x2), has failed to win impressively over anyone since. Taylor's a much better fighter than he gets props for cuz he's been disappointing.Last edited by MANGLER; 09-18-2008, 09:55 PM.Comment

Oh hell yeah I think Taylor was a throwback when it came to picking his first few defenses, Hopkins then Winky back to back 2 guys both in the top 2-3 P4P for years. Yes JT had alot of guts but I think it's a mental block with him and he should be better. Maybe he believes his own bad press and lets it confuse him or maybe everyone that said he was the goods was wrong.Comment

Because controversy still surrounds both Hopkins decisions and the Winky decision. In fights where Taylor was supposed to go on and take the torch from the older guys, he got outboxed, outfought and beaten up at times.that Jermain Taylor is way overrated, ****, a paper champ, etc...., yet Calzaghes win over Bhop is a good win? Especially when Taylor beat him 3 years earlier, and unanimously? Not saying if Taylor is better or inferior to Joe, trying to flame, or percieving a triangle theory. however, logically how some here can make these type of statements, and defend it needs some serious justification that i am not finding! i have seen this talked about far to often lately, and i wanna know how in the hell it is even conceived? to say that bhop is a good win, taylor is average at best, and kessler is p4p all in the same theory baffles the **** out of me.
Calzaghes win over Hopkins wasnt impressive. But theres far less controversy over who won the fight - seems to be mainy Calzaghe-haters who think Hopkins did anywhere near enough to win a 12 round fight.
Also Taylor looked pretty average against two little dudes he shouldve eaten up. His vulnerabilities had already been exposed and to me he looked like an accident waiting to happen. Pavlik exploited that (albeit after almost getting stopped).
Taylor is not average. Hes a very good boxer but he was nothing special. Kessler is also a very good boxer but not a p4p fighter yet. To compare the two, you would just need to make a judgement based on what you've seen and Kessler, to me, looks like the more rounded fighter.Comment

He was a bit overrated by some though, I mean he was hailed as the next king at middleweight, someone who would dominate for years and years but he never lived up to those expectations, he definitely isn't a bad fighter or anything like that though.Comment
