It is the trainer's job to RUN the camp. If the guy is above weight three weeks out, the trainer has to say 'wait a minute - this isn't working'.

If the conditioning guy or the nutritionist had the fighter all muscled up and immobile, isn't it the trainer's job to intervene and put a stop to that ****?

In my perspective, you hire a top trainer to run your camp. Sparring, conditioning supervision, everything.
correct me if I am wrong (which I am a lot) but wasn't 2004 the only time weight was an issue for Joan? I mean yeah we all heard rumors about his weight but for the most part...he made it.

and no you dont hire a top trainer all the time for them to run every aspect of the camp. Some do, but there are others who will defer to specialists to help them in things like conditioning, weight management etc.

it all depends on the trainer in reality. Some just aren't built that way

Floyd Sr. Can pull out a belt and whop him like he did Floyd Jr.

I didn't see it that way from what I read. He basically said what other people here have already pointed out. The blame falls on Guzman. Period. He hired the conditioning coach and he was the one getting in the ring. He's not a child, he's a professional fighter and knows fully well after 28 pro fights what it takes to make weight. He has nobody to blame but himself. Mayweather Sr was not hired to monitor his weight so I fail to see where is responsible for Guzman's unprofessional attitude.
