Schaefer: "No Way Pacquiao Fights Marquez Again"

Following Juan Manuel Marquez's impressive knockout of Joel Casamayor in Las Vegas, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer discussed some of the possible opponents for Marquez in the future. When the name of Manny Pacquiao came up, Schaefer shot it down. He said there is no way that Pacquiao, or his promoter Bob Arum, were going to step up to the plate to fight Marquez again, especially after the way Marquez performed against Casamayor. [details]

Schaefer is full of **** as usual. Pac-JMM 3 might not happen but not because Pac's scared of him, and especially not after him knocking out a washed up elite fighter. Pac already sent JMM to the deck 4 friggin times and not once did JMM reciprocate in kind. Pac would have done a lot more damage on Casa and put him down sooner. It's just that right now there are a lot of bigger fish to fry than JMM out there. I hope it becomes a trilogy though before one of them decides to call it a day.

Let me be frank. I love Marquez to death, but Casamayor was old, old. He was a shadow of himself, and his being stopped showed us he was shot. Pac is a totally different fighter than Casamayor. Pac presents problems to Marquez because of his hand speed. They may not fight a third fight, but it won't be because Pac doesn't want the fight.

this is what i dont understand about you, i know you're a marquez fan but you are discrediting his win because Casa's best wins years are behind him, yet you turn around and completely praise Floyd's win over DLH and Baldomir? DLH was not passed his prime? Baldomir was an actual WW threat because he had THE belt? So this doesn't apply to Marquez? he just beat THE LW champion who has had more significant WINS than DLH did when Floyd fought him and Baldomir, well, he's Baldomir. Can you explain this through process? not hating, but just trying to see why the situation is different.

I'm not saying JMM is still prime, but that Casa is just beyond competitive at this level and at this stage in his career. He shouldn't be fighting anymore and was bound to get beat badly by a real marquee name let alone a still highly rated P4P fighter like JMM despite JMM being past prime.

the only way we don't see a rubber match is if manny gets a hatton fight. manny would probably retire after making $35-40 mil. off oscar and ricky.

There can't be a "rubber match," as marquez didn;t win either of the first two fights. He was lucky enough to get a draw in one. I thought he lost by 5 or 6 points (as did one of the judges).
