Its OFFICIAL GOLDENBOY will Co Promote MMA and Boxing with AFFLICTION

I been reading the MMA boards and Seems All the MMA fans hate the idea saying I dont wanna watch boxing that **** is boring who cares about pillow fights.

This might back fire on oscar since 99 percent of MMA fans only like WWE and MMA and toughman bloody wild swinging matches.

    Affliction, Golden Boy Partner
    Saturday, September 13, 2008
    Sherdog.com Staff
Affliction, Golden Boy Partner Affliction and Golden Boy Promotions at a Saturday press conference in Las Vegas announced a landmark partnership through which they hope to improve the health and future of both mixed martial arts and boxing.

The deal between the two en****** -- one a popular apparel company/fledgling MMA promotion, the other a high-profile boxing organization headed by 10-time world champion Oscar de la Hoya -- includes four pay-per-views and will begin in the first quarter of 2009. Though no specific dates were made official, Affliction representatives have said they have targeted Jan. 17. The relationship includes the controversial plan to commingle boxing and MMA, dividing cards evenly between the two sports.

Affliction earlier this week announced the postponement of its “Day of Reckoning” show, originally scheduled for Oct. 11 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Ticket sales were slow, and the decision to delay the event was met with concern over Affliction’s long-term viability as a fight promotion. Whether or not its partnership with Golden Boy puts those worries to bed remains to be seen.

Affliction “Day of Reckoning” was to feature a heavyweight showdown between former UFC champions Josh Barnett and Andrei Arlovski. Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio declined to comment on whether or not that fight would go forward as part of the first event of the Affliction/Golden Boy partnership.

Nothing concrete was provided on the return of World Association of Mixed Martial Arts heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko, either. The stoic Russian destroyer crushed two-time UFC titleholder Tim Sylvia at Affliction’s debut show in July. He needed just 36 seconds to submit the 6-foot-8 behemoth. Emelianenko (28-1) has not lost a match in almost eight years.

If they keep the boxing shows and the MMA shows seperate, which does not appear to be the plan, then i dont get why those boxing haters would have to watch boxing anyway.

Mixing the 2 sports on the same card would be a horrible horrible idea.

That said, if its done right, then the two could help eachother out, and having the two sports co-exist is a great thing for both sports.

Disagree. It's win-win, huge for both sports, mma has more mainstream coverage then boxing, and boxing has more of the higher class A-listers and HBO. Great deal for both.

MMA is not more mainstream. Look at what ESPN and ESPN News covers.

no, Affliction has absolutely zero mainstream coverage yet. So i highly doubt any mainstream or big name boxers would be placed on these cards

GoldenBoy and Affliction will have to target the Boxing/MMA fan the fan who enjoys both equally...and that demographic is very small probably only 100 thousand tops.

I am one of those guys but if they do this right and go after a different set of teens, the teens who are not preppy or frat boyish and actually like sports then it can succeed.

I hope they target a whole new market of fans the ones who enjoy combat sports in general and can respect both boxing and mma.

but thats a long shot pipe dream that will never happen.

It seems like it would be a pipedream type of thing, but more power to them if they are willing to try it out.

IF is a success, that "inbetween" fanbase u were talking about would grow significantly, and its a good fanbase to have for both MMA and Boxing.
