Putting both on the same card is ******. Affliction, I still think goes under regardless of GBP's help. They sold less than 800 tickets in Vegas, did less than 100K on there last PPV so how they gonna survive? If GBP thinks that putting MMA on Boxing cards will get new fans for both sports I think they're only fooling themselves

i want to see the shirts. probably $70 each though.
As part of its deal with Golden Boy, Affliction will produce a line of event T-shirts for Golden Boy fights to sell at retail locations and at the fight. The first fight it will make shirts for is the Dec. 6 match between Golden Boy boss Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao. In addition, Affliction will become the official apparel licensee for Ring Magazine, which Golden Boy bought last year. It unveiled several sample T-shirts featuring old covers of Ring magazine, including ones of Sugar Ray Robinson.Comment

Hmmnn, its an interesting idea. I'm a fan of both MMA and boxing, boxing since I was a toddler and MMA since the first Pride and UFCs. As a fan of both, its win-win for me.
I'm just not sure of the crossover appeal because I've seen over the years that there are fans of either sport that flat-out refuse to watch and cannot enjoy the other. So, needless to say, it'll be interesting if there is more fallout than converts over this partnership.
I HATE pro wrestling, and all my MMA buddies do too. We all come at being MMA fans from being boxing, grappling, and martial arts buffs first, so please dont generalize MMA fans as wrasslin' fans.Comment

As a fan of Martial Arts, I have fantasize for this type of collaboration. I've actually seen local promoters in my old city do some type of promotion like what Affliction and GBP is planning. I've seen locally promoted shows where they have a boxing match, exhibition matches involving different types of rules and martial arts all on one card. So the concept isn't new, it's just that these companies with bigger budgets bringing it to a nationwide audience, instead of small time promoters organizing it.
I think this idea could be a success if GBP and Affliction put together a great card involving high-caliber fighters that the public is familiar with. Otherwise, it can end up a huge bust.Comment

And break their hands in the process.
Boxers are too used to the pillows. It'll take time for them to finess it up with kneepads.Comment

can't wait till the specifics come for this event as im sure it'll be one of the more early 2009 events to look forward to.
hopefully the whole event isn't going to be PPV as I'd like to see HBO/GB/Affliction
show the start of the card (like 3-4 bouts) on HBO .. then have the other bouts and Main Card all air on PPV ... (Dynamite USA did this for Lesnar's MMA debut)
plus what'll the PPV cost be? as most MMA PPV's are between $39-$45
and most Golden Boy boxing PPV's are either $49.95 or moreComment

HBO refused. Called it "bastardizing" the card.
I think it's a slap in the face of all combat sports to say something that. It also reeks of Bullshido, something we really shouldn't live with this day and age.
I also think just showing one undercard bout in a whole boxing card albet the most boring one just to make the constant filler of three people bul****ing about the headline look better is a crime against boxing itself.
HBO Sports are nothing but children in old men suits.Comment
