I think its a very bad investment by oscar because almost everyone on the mma boards hates boxing and thinks its a sport for ********** and its boring, but maybe oscar feels boxing is gonna die off in 10 years? so he is trying to get involved?

Its all about money with these promoters at the end of the day.

Gary Shaw and elitexc lost 50 million bucks! and still havent made any money back, other MMA orgs have lost just as much they put in millions but never made profit or broke even.

sad oscar is gonna lose a grip because in america its all bout the brand when it comes to mma, UFC is the brand they pay for ufc not MMA in general its like WWE.

if Affliction and Golden Boy really plan to do both on the same card (MMA + boxing fights)

they'd have to very carefully pick and choose what MMA/Boxing fights would be on the event as to make it as entertaining/exciting to watch.

**It'll be very hard to do as already mentioned, but a demographic that enjoys boxing/MMA equally? is that even feasible/realistic?

and Kball GB/Affliction would need at least one or 2 mainstream boxers on the card so it's not a filler.

I'd only like to see this just to see what they'd do on it.

agreed...the matches would have to be carefully planned...it would be aweful to see a 'technical' bout between two pure boxers getting booed because the MMA crowd has no f'n clue of the chess match that's going on...at the same time, i could picture two up n coming grapplers on the mat getting the same treatment by the boxing crowd...it would be a real challenge to pull that off...

here's my only suggestion, if they decide to do that: make it a $20ppv

there is a demographic that enjoys MMA and boxing equally but its super dooper small probably not even 100 thousand.

              Its sad really.

Because the Demographic that enjoys WWE and MMA equally is close to the 10 to 20 million.

it would of been a wiser move for Affliction to Co promote with WWE.

But I know affliction vp tom atencio grew up a huge boxing fan he watches mma and boxing so maybe this is a dream for him.

Sad? dude it's not possible. MMA and boxing are 2 completely different sports, no effin way can ANYONE like them equally. even I who follow both sports like em for different reasons, and it's not close to equal, I like each for different reasons. sure people follow both, I'll believe that .. but like them equally? not possible for what Makavelli said in that the ground game/lay and pray can turn off even the most hardcore MMA fans .. as I've heard booing at UFC, and same with boxing im a fan of it, but I've seen plenty of dull boxing matches filled with either constant movement or hugging/holding.

"Because the Demographic that enjoys WWE and MMA equally is close to the 10 to 20 million."
                ********************************************
okay there you go again with equal. it's not possible to like WWE and MMA the same, as there diff sports. It's a demographic that simply doesn't excist.

Im sure people like both the WWE and MMA.

                it would of been a wiser move for Affliction to Co promote with WWE. {Quote}

uh why? MMA and Wrestling? now that's a bad idea, lol. Plus Vince McMahon is competing with the UFC and Boxing for ratings. why would a man who bought out WCW want anything to do with a rival competition? Sure it could help both Vince and Affliction in the long run

but Boxing and MMA are legit fight sports, where Pro Wrestling has pre determined outcomes, not saying it's impossible, but IMO it's a bad mesh. why would McMahon do it?

But I know affliction vp tom atencio grew up a huge boxing fan he watches mma and boxing so maybe this is a dream for him.
well bottom line is with the October event being postponed Affliction had to do something big, and partnering up with DLH was the best/biggest move they could have done to stay alive. the next step is seeing if both parties (Affliction/DLH) can make a successful profit off of it.

a $20 PPV would be amazing. IMO that could bring not just boxing, but BOTH fight sports well into main stream. a big part of why I don't think the fight sports appeal to a majority of fans is simply cuz of the high costing PPV's .. but a $20 price tag eliminates that. and if the cards can be stacked with high caliber relevant fights .. all the more

**Domain stop trying to compare the 2 so much (Boxing/MMA) as i really think it ****s your viewpoint up a bit.

I mean you think there's a demographic that equally likes boxing and MMA? seriously?

with the comparisons: "almost everyone on the mma boards hates boxing and thinks its a sport for ********** and its boring, but maybe oscar feels"

really? don't you think you're over generalizing a bit much? I've gone on some of the above MMA boards and yes there's boxing hate, and sure some of the die hard and or childish MMA fans will call boxing lame/gay what ever, but I think a mature individual will be able to respect a Pro sport for what it is. not love it, but at least respect boxing.

This might back fire on oscar since 99 percent of MMA fans only like WWE and MMA and toughman bloody wild swinging matches.
give he boxers the sam glo9ves as them MMA fighters and i guarantee a KO rate of at least 80%

anyway, promote them both but not on the same card.

I'll keep this topic alive, as it's the most interesting news I've heard all day.

eh I'll pass final judgment when we get a bigger picture of How many MMA fights will be on it, how many Boxing fights on it .. how many total fights .. etc the specifics. Right now we just have a tentative 2009 start date with the Hybrid MMA/boxing fights

but jeez all that MMA vs Boxing crap will start up again on ESPN (im sure you've heard the arguments .. if not just ask and I'll gladly tell)

and especially if there gonna do an event with BOTH sports on it.

**I know we'll get a poll asking what the best fight was.
