Why did Boxing go from 15 rounds to 12 rounds??...

Especially why not 11 or 13?..an odd number would make much more sense..less chance for ties (of course point deductions or knockdowns can lead to a tie.)..

    Never really understood the reason...

    Anybody know?...

    Because it was "safer"

Honest answer? It was so TV channels could schedule it easier.

Ray Mancini-Duk Koo Kim fight was the precise reason.

Kim died after a hellacious battle. The ref and Kim's mom committed suicide as well.

          FROM WIKIPEDIA
Mancini went to the funeral in South Korea, but he fell into a deep depression afterwards.[3] He has said that the hardest moments came when people approached him and asked if he was the boxer who "killed" Duk Koo Kim. Mancini went through a period of reflection, as he blamed himself for Kim's death. In addition, Kim's mother committed suicide four months after the fight, as did the bout's referee, Richard Green, in July of 1983.[5]
As a result of this bout, the WBC took steps to shorten its title bouts to a maximum of 12 rounds. The WBA and WBO followed in 1988 and the IBF did in 1989.[5]

I think he's asking why they choose 12 rounds, not why they decided to reduce the rounds. Maybe alpha o'mega is right.

Yeah that is the medical reason. Alpha is right about that.. I was just explaining why the change was initiated in the first place.

Personally, I am in favor of draws and even rounds. If a fight is even, call it that way.

We need 15 round fights for rematchs. If not back to 15 round championships.

I think 13 would be perfect..nobody likes ties..not the fans not the boxers and their team of trainers cutmen etc.!
