He didn't try to make a fight with Wills. Wills wanted Dempsey. Dempsey and Tunney said they tried to make fights with Wills, and they never happened, not fault of Wills.

Wills turned Tunney down while he was the #1 contender. This is a historic fact. Dempsey actually signed to fight him only to have the New York (govenor, if I remember correctly) veto the fight. These are facts any poster can look up if they want to take the time.
