These reasons are varied and many but I will list the ones i can think of:

*MMA is more violent. The kids love violence nowadays.

*MMA is much, much, much more cleverly marketed.

*People like to be associated with new "In" sports.

*People would rather watch a streetfight because its something they can relate to.

*There are more succesful white fighters.

      *Fights are shorter

      *Fight cards are packed

*It seems the mostly ADD riddled youth of america dont appreciate the beauty of a master boxer. It just isnt EXTREME! enough for them.

People have been prediciting the death of Boxing ever since Kickboxing came onto the scene in the 80s. That sport was succesful for many of the reasons above but died out in the 90s when it went out of fashion.

It do not beleive MMA will die out as rapidly. This is because of the interent. MMA fans can talk, slag off boxing, watch fights and just generally spread the word. I was watching a fight on youtube when i scrolled down to see a ton of poorly written, energy drink fuelled slag from MMA fans.

This signifies the average MMA fans attitude towards boxing. It is a threat and goes against everything their sport stands for.

Comparing PPV numbers isnt really far considereing Boxing is usually more expensive, As is what you read on the internet, as MMA fans are generally much more vocal and young enough to grow up with the internet.

Anyway. Boxing needs to do something to get back on top. Here are some suggestions that ive come up with. I have tried to make sure the suggestions dont change boxing too much eg: Shorter fights would mean we dont get any epic Leonard/Hears, Gatti/ward type back/forwards type fights.

*Make the gloves smaller. Maybe a 6oz for the lower weights and work your way up.

*Scale up the scoring for effective agression

      *Unify the organisations

      *Televise fights for free

*Hopefully a unified org would make the top fighters actually fight eachother

      *Increase penalties for clinching

*Stratergies to induct young talent such as schoolastic activities

      *More television ads

*AND PLEASE PACK THE CARDS FULL OF GOOD FIGHTS! THIS ALONE WOULD SAVE BOXING!

      What do you guys think?

Boxing has been around forever and will always have a fanbase. I like MMA, but its not taking over boxing. If anything it is forcing boxing promoters into giving us better fights.

Hopefully it will force boxing to give us better fights. I wish the two sports could exist side by side but the truth is; the MMA fanbase has already had a hatred for boxing instilled in them. Im not talking about every MMA fan, just the majority.

They see the UFC execs talking mess about boxing and they want to join in. They also see boxing as a threat.

I dont think theres anything boxing as a whole can really do to help its self. sure one organization and one belt would be amazing but lets be real, that will never happen. The biggest problem with boxing is it has no star. oscar still sells but hes not a guy to actually get excited about. Mannys amazing and is easily the leading canidate but i dont know how many americans would really jump on his bandwagon since hes from the philipines. and just for the record mayweather was a terrible poster boy for boxing. you have to actually box to enjoy him. the average fan cant get into his style. so to sum it up we need a boxer who is exciting and puts it all on the line, but also has great chrisma and can speak good english. also like everyone says boxing needs better marketing.

Some of you don’t see the seriousness the threat MMA poses on boxing.

                WTF was that!!!???

Dude that is in no way shape or form a correct way to throw an over hand right. He ought to be ashamed of himself teaching those kids to throw a punch like that.

The top dogs in boxing make so much more money than the mma cats because it is still generating so much money and it continues to be profitable. When an MMA guy is able to claim that he made more money in one year then a promoters whole stable (mayweather or dlh vs. ufc) then I'll consider mma a true threat. Until then, boxing will continue steadily as long as it keeps generating revenue and great fights.
