boxrec also has a few old timers going up against a fighter with 0 fights, i don't think its accurate for fighters from the conn era

Yes, they should, thats why we have weight classes. And the reason people beat Valuev is because for all of his size, he has zero skills.
Look at it this way, if I weight 100 pounds and you weigh 110, thats the same as a guy 200 pounds out weighed by a full 20 pounds. So the smaller you go, the more those few pounds count. Is 12 pounds a huge difference between HWs? No, but between FW and LW, LW and WW its a lot. Could you see Chris John beating Nate Campbell or Joel Casamayor? Could you see Campbell or Casamayor beating Margarito? Could you see Margarito beating Pavlik or Abraham?

you have given in to the Jose Sulaiman propaganda. Most of the weight classes were made to just create extra belts for the boxing organizations to make more money on the royalties. the amount of weight divisions should be cut in half and that will be more realistic.

would you have believed if I had told you that a 108 Pacquaio would one day move up a couple of divisions to beat a 135 lb lightweight champ?
