Is Pacquiao moving up to 147 the equivalent...

...of Roy Jones Jr moving up to HW?

And if he beats De La Hoya (a big, big 'if'), will this be considered a greater achievement than RJJ beating John Ruiz?

    Opinions?

It's more like Duran moving up to middleweight and beating Iran Barkley IMO.

In truth, Pacquiao has been an oversized SFW. He should have been at LW loooong ago. He has been majorly outweighing his opponents.

If Forbes and Mayweather fought at WW, then it is within range for Pacquiao. At least Pac will actually be at/above the WW limit on fight night.

Roy was shy of 200, and FMJ was shy of 154 on fight night.

no it probably shouldn't, but if Manny can kayo him it just could be. Let's not forget Ruiz in all fairness despite his notoriety for having a horribly boring style was a top 10 Heavyweight in the world, and a current Title holder at the time Jones beat him, making that win a pretty good one.

where on the contrary yes Manny is moving up 2 weight classes, but it's vs a 36 year old DLH who's more businessman than boxer.

what'll be more interesting then the size differential is how much more $$ Oscar get's then Pacquiao once it all gets sorted out (post fight, PPV buys etc)

I'd rank it as a better achievement. Oscar may be fairly old now, but he isn't shot and he has been consistently a P4P fighter for many years. Ruiz was never a P4P fighter and was a weak heavyweight champion. Not that I'm saying that Roy's win wasn't excellent.

i think the pacquiao started at 106/108 argument is a bit deceiving because he was like 14 when he was pro..

but anyhow.. i still think it would be a great accomplishment..

Jesus Christ yes!!!! Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes! DLH is a far superior fighter to Ruiz, by about a million miles. And moving up to 147 for Pac is the same as Roy moving up from 175 to heavy, if not a bigger achievment. In my mind this would eclipse what Roy achieved. But then I'm not a Roy nuthugger like the majority on here.
