Don't forget that a lot of the greatest match ups in history have involved one of these guys you seem to like to call a 'runner'. The best match ups have usually been a great boxer against a great boxer-puncher. Who wins? It is usually the boxer, certainly not the large majority, but having more skill helps a lot.
Anyway, without these 'runners' you would never have seen many of the greatest fights the sport has ever had, Ali/Frazier etc etc. You mentioned Malignaggi, did you not, as one of these 'runners'? Have you seen his fight with Cotto? It is a fantastic showing of the puncher beating the boxer in a great and exciting fight.
To consistently put down the skills of the boxers is simple minded and dull. It also shows that you have probably never really boxed. If you had you would appreciate just how good those boxers are at doing what they can do. To be able to hit someone and not get hit back truly is the meaning of the sport. Those that can do it well will always be appreciated by a true boxing fan. Exciting fights are always needed, but watching two guys wail on each other with little skill and neither one caring about getting hit is just plain ridiculous.
This obsession with pretending to show how tough you are by getting hit a lot is also absurd. You are tough and macho and manly (and all that other BS) if you get in the ring at all, and if you can hit the other guy and not get hit back to win, then you also happen to be a brilliant boxer, not just tough.
There will always be those that are brilliant boxers who prefer to fight with great skill and with the science of boxing and there will always be those who use pure brute strength and try to simply out-will and out-brawl their opponents. Both have their place and all should be appreciated for what they bring to the game. To ridicule or disrespect either of them is to show your ignorance. A boxing fan, especially one serious enough to come on a boxing forum all the time and even box themselves, would appreciate all fighters and styles. It's a very difficult thing to fight. Even harder is to do it all with true skill.
