Guys who keep bringing up looks as the reason DLH is disliked are ****s with crushes on the dude. DLH is disliked because he fought an over the hill Chavez twice and he ran at the end of the Trinidad fight. I'm actually a fan of his myself but let's face it, he's also kind of an effeminate guy especially for a boxer. He speaks with a high pitched voice and a slight lisp. He's talked about how much he hates looking in the mirror and seeing the bruises on his face after a fight. He released a gay love album and those photoshopped pics didnt help his already soft image.
He has also said that when he saw Chavez bleed during their fight, he wanted to see more and more blood flow from his face. That's fine, it's the attitude that boxer has to have inside the ring and he was being honest but you cant expect Chavez fans to suddenly rally behind him after a comment like that. As far as people hating him for his intelligence, well that's just plain BS. Most Mexican boxers are actually very sharp and articulate when speaking Spanish.
There are many Mexican boxers in the sport and it's ridiculous to expect all Mexican fans to root for every single Mexican fighter especially when they face off in heated rivalries against one another. For ex, during the 80s some American fans rooted for Leonard while some rooted for Hearns and in England today some fans love Hatton while others love taking the piss out of him.
People are also overlooking the basic fact that DLH's nationality is AMERICAN and he'll always be seen as somewhat of a foreigner because of it, however, DLH remains one of the most popular boxers within the Mexican American community. That's why his "homecoming" fight took place in LA where he received alot of support from his fellow Chicanos.
