ok while you did say some I do feel I should reply as to why I dont dig him anymore

so does Vargas, David Diaz, Juan Diaz, Julio Diaz, Rocky Juarez etc and I dont hate any of them

thats debatable but I dont hate smart fighters like Hopkins Mayweather the Klitschkos etc

Looks dont play into my boxing equation or else Nicolai Valuev would be my favorite

so did a lot of the above I mentioned in the first quote

so has for the most part Barrera and JMM and they are two of my favorites

no doubt but again so are a lot of fighters in their own aspects

money doesnt play into my boxing equations

surprisingly I was never a Chavez fan and actually rooted against him a lot. I was in houses full of Mexicans rooting for Pea and Meldrick, screamed for joy when the Surgeon dropped him and really was indifferent when DLH mopped him up

well it may not be on the level of DLH because DLH 1. is richer 2. has a lot of corporate sponsers assisting his business ventures but El Feroz does quite a bit for his own community as well

to me DLH was a beast and a favorite of mine from 130-140. I loved the story of doing it for his mom in 92. I dug he looked like a warrior in beating guys like Chicanito, Rafa Ruelas, JJL, et al. I didnt mind he was brash and ****y and combined all the elements of a mega star because he could back it up

then he got to 147 and kind of changed. Gone was the fierce left hook. Gone was the influence of his predessecors (sp). It became more about the brand Oscar De La Hoya rather than the fighter. He changed trainers more than he changed undies, he was more show than substance. Didn't he say he wanted to fight like a black fighter then also say that blacks couldnt take it to the body.

to me he bought into what the masses were saying and it showed and to be honest soured the community where he grew up.

but the bulk of my questioning him and the contradiction he has become comes more towards when he became part time fighter full time promoter

from a promotional end he has done little to change the sport. He doesn't develope his own talent. Really other than Mares who can you say has been a homegrown GBP talent? Ponce? Hell thats Joe Hernandez and him saying "**** you GBP own up to your end" than GBP actually caring. Ask those in his stable and a lot of them (off record) will say once you go to GBP you might as well promote yourself.

as a part time fighter he has now fought:

    1. a chain smoking wild man more known for his antics than being a fighter
    2. the p4p best but only did it by making him move to 154 and with I do believe 10oz gloves
    3. a former 130lb fighter forcing him to go to 150 to do it
    4. and now the p4p #1 who has only had one fight at 135....two divisions from where they are supppsed to fight at (if DLH even makes 147)

this to me is a sham and a smokescreen. he is the lil dude behind the wizard trying to get people to believe the lie. He said his final three fights were to be with the best yet he has now fought two former junior lightweights and who knows who will be his last fight.

dude has become more media than fighter and its a shame because to be honest had he been more serious about his post 140 career rather than chasing "The Mega Event" then we would be talking more about his all time status rather than why he is fighting a Lightweight one fight removed from being a 130ln champ.
Oscar lost the hunger a long time ago, when he decided to take long ass breaks between fights.

He is a full time promoter and businessman. Boxing is his hobby.

For those who claim Oscar is ducking Tony, what would a victory over a guy whose hobby is boxing mean? I mean if Oscar was fighting like 3 times a yr since 2002, then it would make sense and beating him would mean something.

agreed but here is the issue I have and mind you the public has a lot to do with this as well so its not solely on Oscar's doorstep

if he is a part time fighter then fight those who don't mean anything to the sport anymore or don't have other business to handle. Fight Tito, fight Mora. What he did was essentially take away a fighter, p4p #1, from a division that is red hot right now. There are so many intriguing options at 130-135 that you could throw countless matchup options out there and it would be good stuff

now to make it even worse Manny and Freddie are on record saying that they are probably done with 135. That sucks and yes while no one is putting a gun to Manny's head in taking this, from a boxing fan's POV it stops all future matchups for one of boxings most exciting fighters

        now we wont see

        JMM III
        Juan Diaz
        Guzman
        Soto
        Nate
        Casa
        Katsidis

in possibly great fights with Manny.

the event wont hurt boxing but the ripple effects sure dont help it either

as far as Margarito is concerned I really only cared because its nice to see Tony get paid but even then I knew Oscar wasn't going that direction.

much respect though for standing by him even when its not the thing to do anymore. Just wanted to give you what I hope was an educated reply back to you about how some dont feel your sentiments

was he a good role model to his kids the ones he forgot about? Or about the alledged **** he did in Mexico? or the one girl he threw through a glass window or how he not only locked out one of his baby mommas but his daughter as well?

not everything is what it seems all the time man

correct. his outside activities are questionable.
I've been a fan of his skills since the beginning, lost some and won some, but the dude took on everyone.

Im just directing this thread to the ones who claim Oscar is a sell out or acting white. There is no official way of acting, thinking or being mexican, some folks are just hardheaded.

Oscar wants to make the money, thats why this fight is being made. He wants to go out as being the guy that beat the pound for pound guy, to make up for the boring mayweather fight. Oscar the 10 x 6 division champ vs the most exciting fighter today, manny pacquiao, from a marketing standpoint, its a winner.

Pac already fought Marquez twice, close fights but Pac won both IMO.

you forgot the most imporatant reason....theyre idiots....i mean they believe they have the right to say oscar aint mexican(by law, oscar is...)...and give out ****** reason like oscar acts white...

(which is why ive gone down to their level and told em that pochos shouldnt even try to question another pocho's antionality, cus they arent even recognised as real mexicans by most mexicans anyway...)

i mean mexicans from mexico dont even care......and the ones who do care jsut dislike him because he beat chavez and he is a foreign boxer.....but thats true of ANY pocho...
