The average guy on the street would care more about another Mike Tyson comeback than about Cotto-Margarito, but I'm not sure that Tyson coming back would be a good thing either.

I'm going to make this short and sweet.
A lot of you are living in a dreamworld.
Just a personal example, and I know this doesn't mean anything but it might be something to consider.
I throw boxing parties all the time, where I get people who don't care about boxing to come out and watch fights.
I tried to get people to come to Cotto Margarito and no one, even people who watched boxing like I do, came or cared.
I've already gotten ten texts about Oscar vs. Pac and people's opinions on the fight and how they can't wait to see the superfight.
Just cause you guys say something is a joke, or killing boxing, doesn't mean it's true to the average fan.
Just something to think about.
But for example want to see for example, a Pavlik-Wright fight.....but to the causuals nobody really knows Winky, or if they do, they know he's not a very big puncher. When people hear Pavlik-Hopkins, they know its a big fight.Comment

I am not even sure why I should care what the average guy on the street thinks.
I don't give a flying fish if any of my favorite fighters is making 400k or 40 million. I just want to see the best fight the best.
Maybe someday, I will listen to the average man on the streets opinions on boxing, just not for a while.Comment

Yea casual boxing fans love them some Oscar, that is the meat of Oscar's audience. I am sure hardcore fight fans followed Oscar to but I do not think they ever really liked Oscar.
I stand by that Oscar could be fighting a scarecrow in his last fight and it would do over 1 million buys. This fight will make tons of cash for all involved, everyone should realize that, it is really not up for debate.Comment

We learned about Dlh early. Winning gold, taking on tough guys. He didn't just turn into a punk. When you have a big fan base like Dlh, it means he was no fraud. He could fight, he could punch, and the women loved him. I always liked Dlh. To me he did good without a right hand because he was well schooled, had a great jab, and a chin.Comment

that's true. I was listening to a talk radio show in my car today and even though the show has nothing to do with sports or I've never heard them talk about sports ever, they mentioned the DLH-Pacquiao fight as being officially signed. this fight is huge to everyone except the true boxing fans who know the deal. it really is sad that this fight is gonna be 100 times more popular than the cotto-margarito fight.
The roar of the masses, are just farts.
Tis true.Comment

But I agree with your point. Oscar's choice of taking on Pacman instead of Antonio won't make a damn one way or another, really. Oscar is almost to the point of being strictly an exhibition type fighter, just paid (very, very well) to put on a performance, he's not really in the game anymore. And even if that weren't the case, there are probably hundreds of fights that should've been made in the past, but weren't, for one reason or another (usually more money in another fight, same as this), and it didn't manage to kill the sport.Comment
