why does kessler get so much praise here?

first of all, i don't hate the guy i'm just interested as to why he is seen as such a legend without having actually achieved much...

he beat mundine, beyer and andrade, he has only fought outside of denmark twice and one was against calzaghe!!!

he's been in some very good fights, but no classics
his skills aren't extraordinary... (strong with good basic skills which can be exposed by an actual skilled fighter such as calzaghe)

i just want to know what makes him your favourite fighter over other fighters who are better than him in every single way

I'd like to know who these fighters are that are better than Kessler in every single way? Start with accuracy. Kessler is an outstanding fighter, and his opposition stands up well to almost any other fighter in his weight class who hasn't been around forever. I'm confident his next big opportunity will go much better for him.

I also think he is a good fighter who has to be expose to the american public for them to appreciate his talent but i also dont like the way some calzaghe fans push him like his an all time great just to make Joe C resume look good.

I really dont think they need to do that because Kessler will prove how good he really is in the long run.

I think a fight with Taylor would be his best bet for exposure and fame. After that the Super Middleweight division gets pretty weak. It's going to be a tough task for Mikkel to establish himself as a great fighter against such sub-par competition.

I'd like to see Pavlik move up to fight him, after Pavlik fights Abraham.

It's an attempt by Calzaghe's ball-suckers to inflate Joe's record and make him seem more impressive. That's why anytime you see them discussing Calzaghe they immediately bring up Kessler.

Truth be told Kessler is average at best, and will remain so in my eyes until I see him against another elite fighter. Calzaghe is the only elite opponet on his record and he damn near got shutout in that fight. I just find him to be too robotic for my liking. He's got a good jab though.

Kessler isn't seen as a legend, he is seen as one of the best prime boxers active today. It's a big difference.

Beating Mundine, Beyer, Andrade etc is part of the reason he is highly regarded, they and others were the best boxers his division had to offer, all of them were good wins over good opponents, and he amassed two world titles and notched up several defences beating them. Fighting outside of Denmark is a non-issue, he's Danish. How many Americans box outside of the US?

His match with Calzaghe was a classic, one of the best fights of recent years. His skills also are extraordinary he is technically an almost perfect orthodox boxer and is a very fast, powerful SMW. I can't think of many boxers who are 'better than him in every single way', particularly around his weight class. Pavlik works harder but is slower, Taylor has more variety but executes it less well.

He isn't my favourite fighter, but he's one of them. I think he's got the potential to be one of the very best boxers in the world.

I would seriously like to see him against Taylor and pavlik at 168 because most of the best 168 fighter are europeans which doesnt help, If he can get any of the top american from 160-175 to meet him at 168 then that would give him the exposure that he needs in the states.

I doubt that, especially the way Joe's fans diesrespected him on here going into the fight. Respect is fleeting in this game. Nobody gives a **** about you when you lose, they break you down when you're ontop, and they only ever give you your just do years after you're gone.

Who is there for Pavlik to fight after Abraham? His moving up to 170 shows that there isn't really anyone, so if that makes it possible that we'll see Kessler against Taylor, Pavlik, Abraham or one of the up-and-comers.

People like Pascal, Froch and Bute are yet to beat anyone great, but there's an outside chance that one of them becomes a big name within the next year or so. I think Bute has a very entertaining style, and being based in Canada means that finding success in America is realistic possibility for him.

After that we may see him stepping to 175.

I'm not saying that he beats all those guys, but if is he good enough to do so then I think he'd get a lot of exposure.

I don't really agree with the intended point of the thread though. Some of my favourite fighters weren't that great, but so what? There's no rule saying that your favourite fighters have to be P4P quality.
