Response To The Hopkins's Biggest Mistake.......thread

I think the difference between Jones and Zaggs are clear.....Jones had, to my knowledge, never really been caught flush by a big shot he didn't see coming before the second Tarver fight. Calzaghe, on the other hand, has been caught many times by some real bombs. Zaggs clearly has the tougher beard, by miles and miles.
But I agree with you 100% about this: NOBODY is KO proof. If Calzaghe keeps fighting, he'll eventually be caught by the right guy with the right shot, and fail to beat the count.Comment

You have to admit, Jones didn't get caught by just any shot, he got caught with about the best possible punch a fighter could take flush.I think the difference between Jones and Zaggs are clear.....Jones had, to my knowledge, never really been caught flush by a big shot he didn't see coming before the second Tarver fight. Maybe he could wait until Hopkins turns 107 to challenge him to that rematch?Comment

You bet he did. He didn't see it coming, couldn't have prepared for it (thrown at from a bad angle by Tarver, who had his eyes completely closed when he threw it), and the KO was completely understandable. It was one of the luckiest punches Tarver has ever thrown. No doubt he intended to hit Jones with it, but I'm sure he never expected to catch anything but air. He was probably more surprised than Jones, honestly. And I think that shot (nasty, right on the button, rattled his brain dramatically) is about 50% of the reason he's so chinny today...you get caught like that and I believe personally that it makes you more susceptible to being KO'd. And if you get caught hard enough, you're never the same guy again. Just a few concussions can do it easily, look at Holyfield for example. But Zaggs naturally has a better chin anyway. Some people are that way, can't knock 'em out with a baseball bat.
Jones, if he can keep from getting caught, will still lose the decision simply because he can't fight for 12 rounds anymore. He's good for 6 to 8 at most, if he throws much at all. That is why, if Roy is to have any chance at all, he has got to jump on Zaggs from the starting bell, before Joe gets warmed up and figures out a gameplan, and go for the KO. He's got to jump on his ass and swing for the fences, using every trick he's learned over the years to land his biggest shots, and pray he can get Zaggs stunned, and finished before he gasses. It's a huge muther****ing risk, I know, especially considering Joe's chin and the fact that he's never been hurt, but it's the only way for Jones to win. There is no alternative gameplan that can give Roy Jones a victory.
If he doesn't do it this way, he's going to, without doubt, lose a lopsided decision. And if he jumps on Zaggs and doesn't finish him, he's going to get KO'd sometime after 5 or 6, also no doubt whatsoever about that. He won't be able to recover enough from his earlier exertion to keep Zaggs from finishing him off in deep water.
Personally, I'd throw myself at Zaggs with abandon and see what I could do. Better to go out in a blaze of glory than to sit back and let someone I can't possibly keep up with in punch output outwork me and make me look older than I already do.Comment
