i dont think joe wanted to fight him early in his career because he would of probably lost. joe did idolise roy which probably is the reason hes fighting jones and not pavlik. But the same can be said for everytime Joe wanted to fight Jones early in his career. At that point, who had Joe beaten to deserve a shot on HBO PPV with RJJR????
And if you look at the guys Jones faced off against, most of these "No" names ppl speak of were Mandatories. Lose his belts if he doesn't face them. Its a no brainer as to whqt he was going to do.
Also, Some of the lesser fighters Jones has faced faired well against tough Competition. Richard Hall fought his ass off against Michealchewski 2 times. And ppl had him ahead before the first fight was stopped.Comment

Who said it was anything great?
The question was quite clear: if his punches are so ineffectual, why didn't Hopkins walk through them?
But you ignored that and just posted the same old garbage.Comment

Mayweather is 31, not close to 37 and Mayweather never suffered a career threatening injury at the age of 17. Joe Calzage QUIT boxing for a year or two in the amateurs because of his wrist injuries and he's broken his hands many times in the past.Soy hate on Mayweather retiring when his hands are ****ed as well.....?!?!?!
Look Calzaghe no doubt about it has skills. He's a solid fighter inside the ring that has the ability to work at just about the highest work rate without tiring that I have seen in quite some time. He still has the ability to move around the ring as well. Problem here in lies the fact that he just doesnt possess "Pop" anymore. He break you down as a fighter, but what happens if hes well behind on scorecards? Yes his hands are weak, he claims they always have been, maybe they have. But if that's the case which Im assuming they are, then y not come over to the MECCA of boxing, The USA, say 5-6 years ago, land some big fights, prove your dominance over the elite fighters, then call it a day around the same time as he will. Difference being, that he fought a number of elite guys, had more exposure over the long haul by coming to the US earlier in his career, and beat the best. Thats my only question Im going to have in my mind.
Bottom line is this, Jones wins this fight, then we will all have no more reason to talk about Joe Calzaghe and how great he may have been or even is. Becuase if Jones at this point in his career can beat Calzaghe, then all the elite fighters in the MW and LHW divisions should have beaten him if he came across the Sea to fight them.Comment

cause those slaps score pointsI find all you haters amusing calling Joe,( Calslappy, hits like a girl,) this and that. Well if hes such a slapper why havent the likes of suppose badasses like Kessler,Lacy, and supposedly badass Nard who grew up in the ****** and served time been able to beat Joe? Think about that.........if Joes such a slapper, why hasnt anybody been able to walk right through him? And its not like he runs around the ring like Floyd whos afraid to trade against dangerous guys and dances all night. So to you guys talking **** about Joes feather hands, that makes Nard and the rest of the guys all time ******* who couldnt handle Joe, give the man respect! Peace.Comment

Lacy sucks? I gotta tell you, that is not the **** everybody talked before his Calzaghe fight. There were some who were skeptical that Lacy would pull off the win (I was cheerleading that section, I'll tell you without reservation), but the overwhelming majority of people thought Lacy was going to make a short night of it and KO Zaggs with little trouble. Now, after the fight Lacy is suddenly trash, of course, because that's convenient for anyone who can't stand Calzaghe, but if you follow boxing at all, you'd know that this has been the case with many of Calzaghe's fights in the last several years. "He's going to get exposed, he'll be crushed, Lacy is too strong for him, Kessler will giving him a boxing clinic, he can't take Mitchell's power, Brewer will walk right through his slaps". Well, if you haven't noticed, he beat down Lacy like he was an ammature (and whatever you may think, Lacy is no joke, he's solid, skilled and in great shape with some decent names on his resume, for all his youth and relative inexperience), gave Kessler the clinic, got a TKO over Mitchell (early stoppage in my opinion but that happens), had an extremely lopsided win over Brewer, and has beaten pretty much every opponent he's ever had, with very few exceptions, very convincingly leaving no doubt who was the better fighter.
In particular I remember before the Kessler match was made, everybody here on this forum (and I mean everybody) said Zaggs had to take the fight, it would prove he's not a joke, that the Lacy fight wasn't just a great night for him, that Kessler was clearly his only possible route to proving his ability, and most people thought Kessler would win by easy decision or (and more likely in the opinion of most) late KO. Now then, of course, Kessler is suddenly a bum with no heart because Zaggs made him look like an rank amature.
Then more recently, "Bhop da man, Bhop gonna skool CalSlappy"...again, "Da Man" didn't throw enough to even notice, just grabbed, butted, and acted like a sissy, so now he's an old man that Calslappy should've handled more easily, and who can blame Hopkins for losing, and besides, whatever the judges say, those 6 punches he landed (including the KD, mind you) won him the fight and they're wrong. Oh give me a ****ing break.
Now there are about half the people on the forum thinking that Jones is the answer to Calzaghe, that Jones can KO Calslappy, no problem, he's got power and speed and skills, even if he is nearly 40 (so is Zaggs, by the way) and coming back from 3 losses. But they're smarter this time, making sure they have their excuses in place before the fight ends. Still, I'm wondering how long it'll be after Calzaghe beats Jones before Roy we all suddenly discover that Jones has always been overrated, that he's fought nothing but bums, has no decent names on his resume, is 65 years old, shot, broken down, weight drained, has cancer and was actually having a heart attack in the ring during the fight but soldiered on and who can blame him for losing......
Some of you ****ing infantile ****s really crack me up, and I see another long, long break from this forum coming on. I'm going to, very soon, need an antidote for this ******ity.Comment
