With 5 career losses Margarito has managed to hold alphabet titles in 1 division his entire career. He has no real amateur accomplishments. He has already been defeated by 1 of the other titleholders in the division. He is already 30 years old. But some would have us believe that he has had a greater career than future Hall of Famers like Oscar, Floyd, or even Joe Calzaghe & Roy Jones.
Is he the most overrated boxer in history. Guys like David Reid, Edison Miranda, Tommy Morrison were overrated but I think Margarito just might take 1st place.
Actually, I thought he was underrated. But that aside, he is definately not the most overrated boxer in history - that distinction belongs to your avatar - Lennox Lewis...

I know you are trying to make a point, but...
My god, Lennox Lewis is much too god to take criticism of that nature.
and yet, to be able to all of that for as long as he does throughout a fight, takes skill. First, he has to know how to punch properly, then he has to have the timing down, and lastly, he needs the stamina to sustain that type of output. But because he doesn't set and pick his shots, hes not skilled?
Gtfoh. Your boy got beat to a pulp like many other Margarito opponents. It takes skill to put down an asswhipping like that. As I said, its not the prettiest or the flashiest, but its still skill involved.
So Cotto was more accurate. Whoopdeewhoo. What exactly did he win for being more accurate because I know it wasn't the fight. And nobody cares whos punches looked cleaner because thats not what matters.
What matters is whos punches were more effective.
Tonys were more effective and harder as well.
He made Cotto quit.
lol @ you thinking accuracy is going to win that fight. Tony was already ahead by that point anyways.
No..but that proves that I hit a soft spot when talkin about ur man Margarito..I didn't say accuracy wins fights..and all that "timing, knowing how to punch and when how and where"..that's bologna bro..you learn that in the amateurs..
This thread was made to question Margarito's skill and and how his fans overrate him..kinda like you do actually..and..IMO..again MY OPINION..His skill is mediocre at best..
And I'm sorry for liking skill and a cleaner ACCURATE punches..rather than a bunch of crammed-hoping-they-land-while-I-can-take-shots punches...

He is overrated by his fans, but fans always overrate, thats what they do, ****, i do it myself, because im a fan.
Margarito isnt overrated because he basically is whats advertised for the most part, we no hes not all that skilled, but his size in the division makes him a tough fight, he can take a good shot and his attack is constant even if pedestrian. Although his skills couldnt take him any further than he is now, its good enough to be a legit champ in a division thats loaded with talent. I dont think thats overrated at all.

no way homie.....Margarito is far from being the most overrated player in the game....you have that Ricky Hatton guy, you had Fernando Vargas, and a host of other clowns who NEVER won the BIG one but carried a big enough fan bases to keep them relevent! Margarito has actually beaten somebody in the P4P's top 10....Hatton beat an shot Kosta Tszyu after Tszyu had a LONG lay-off....thats Hatton's claim to fame.....Hatton is one of the most overrated athletes competing in any sport!!!
are you a pro? Do you write boxing articles for a living? Ring has him ranked #1. Hes certainly not over rated. Probably the most unpolished champ however not over rated. I would have to say Brian Mento is more over rated. He lost to Toney Tubb-a-tubb-tubb and most people think he will be a player in the HWs. Also most eastern - euros are more over rated.
