Enzo Maccarinelli is currently geared up to fight for his old WBO cruiserweight title against Johnathon Banks but admitted to setantasports.com that he would consider taking a fight at light heavyweight if he was offered a massive fight in this division.
Maccarinelli fights the unbeaten American fighter on September 27 and is fired up to prove his knockout loss to David Haye was an aberration.
As someone who walks around at just over the cruiserweight limit (14 stone 4lbs), Maccarinelli admitted that down the line, he would consider a bout at money in the division below.
"If the fight was important enough, I think I could just get down to 12 stone 7lbs," Maccarinelli told setantasports.com's Spencer Fearon. "How I perform at 12st 7lbs (is another matter).
"But if a big fight was presented to me, like a Chad Dawson. Even the winner of Kelly Pavlik or Bernard Hopkins and there was enough money on the table. Yes, I might take the chance.
"I might take the risk, but at the moment I am a cruiserweight and I want to clean up the cruiserweights.
"But never say never, if I get a big offer and something meaningful on the table, I'd definitely think about it."
At the moment, Maccarinelli is only focused on Banks (20-0, 14 KOs) and is desperate to get the belt he first won two years ago back around his waist.
"I'm fit I'm strong and I've got a lot of people to prove wrong at the moment," Maccarinelli added. "I feel like a dangerous man. I was meant to fight on July 19, that didn't happen, but I'm ready to go.
"I saw Banks' last fight and thought he was pretty useless to be honest, but look at my last fight and I was pretty useless myself.
"You look at the last fight, I didn't look impressive, he didn't look impressive.
"People are going to be questioning which Enzo turns up. Will I be gunshy, will I be lacking confidence. I can tell Johnathon Banks right now. As soon as that bell goes, I'll be coming out swinging.
"There's going to be so much ferocity in my punches, I'm just going to be a nasty man that night."
