During the Brock-McCline broadcast I think they said McCline had 1 amateur fight before he turned pro.

A boxer can excel as a pro without a big amateur career and many have examples of guys who did. However, with that said, from my experience, if you have a choice...get some SERIOUS amateur background before you go pro. Look at it this way: Many can think of a guy who didnt have a deep amateur career but made it as a pro, true....but EVERYONE can think of ten successful guys who did both.

I somewhat agree with you ICE. But the Mexicans are pretty darn successful with their program, most if not all known Mexican fighters did not have a long amateur background. I mean just look at the list of Chavez, Barrera, Morales, JMM, on and on.

It's just how a fighter is groomed. DLH won olympic gold, JCC whooped on a ton of pedicab drivers, both were great. To each his own, ICE.

Hasim Rahman and Rocky Marciano had like 10-20 amateur fights.
