Hang on, Roy Jones was saying lets weigh in at 168, then the next day 175 and fight for the titles at both weights. That was a radical proposition turned down.

So what makes this any different?

If it's at 168 Calzaghe's SMW titles are on the line. If it's at 170 who knows. If it's at 175 his Ring LHW is on the line. I can't see Calzaghe agreeing to belts from more than one weight class being on the line, or why this scenario is any different to the Roy proposition, though maybe I'm missing the obvious and not thinking it through.

Surely this would happen often if it was really so easy, and I'm glad it doesn't, undermines the very foundation of weight classes.

Winning the LHW belt while in a bout that places you in another weight class just doesn't seem right to me somehow.
Well I know there's the precedent for having two weigh ins for one fight so that it can be for the SMW and LHW belt, but surely the fact that they needed to have two weigh ins means that a fight at 168 can't be for the 175 title? Otherwise why not just weigh in at 168?

Possibly because it's not possible for a Ring champion to have a non-title fight? That's just a guess, I don't know what rules there are for the Ring belt.

I don't think that the Ring champ can be stripped, there are no mandatories or sanctioning fees...I'm not sure how it would work to be honest.
