They don't have similar styles. They don't have similar skills. They don't have similar backgrounds.

I just can't figure out why suddenly the Floydboys are hyping Williams.

Can anyone think of a reason?
I'm a mayweather fan and I'm not that big of a p-will fan. I do think he is the best welterweight but thats more to do with his height and reach than his skill. I think he gets beat at mw and smw but will go undefeated from now on if he remains a ww..

If everyone insists, I suppose race does have something to do with it.

Still I'd expect in that case someone to admit "I like him because he's black, and there are no other blacks to support right now."

anti-Hispanism may also have something to do with it.

A lot of Floyd fans have in the past spoke of how they like him because he is so skillful, and prefer his 'boxing clinic' performances over those of someone like Margarito, who they criticise for his lack of skill.

These people prefer Jones to Calzaghe, because Jones is more skillful etc.

A lot of these same Floyd fans seem to dislike Calzaghe, who throws lots of punches, isn't all that accurate etc. and they supported Hopkins against him. They also seem to think Hopkins deserved to win because (they claim) his punches were harder and cleaner (but anyone who scored AM-PW with a similiar criteria in mind is considered to be an idiot by them).

So therefore, you would expect these people to support Quintana against Williams, because Quintana is a very skillful boxer, and proved in the first Williams fight that his technique is about 10x better. Williams throws -and misses- a lot of punches.

But instead certain Floyd fans support Hopkins and Jones against Calzaghe, and Williams against Quintana. Looking at their styles, you wouldn't expect this to be the case. There must be some other explanation.

                Williams?

                Technical?

This guy does everything the trainers told us not to do, when we were 8. You only need to watch him for one second to see he was a late starter.

A physical freak and a talent? Yes.

                Technically good? Not a bit.
