Calzaghe beat Hopkins on what he was supposed to win on..... his workrate. he wasn't landing cleanly and effectively but he was overwhelming Hopkins with his high workrate and that stopped Hopkins from throwing at times which was winning him rounds. The fight was close but you have to give Calzaghe credit for fighting Hopkins fight and winning.
Perfect account of the fight right there. i felt hopkins did enough to edge him out, but there wasn't a doubt in my mind that Joe was taking the decision, and judges care more about workrate than control of the ring, whether or not most of those punches are landing. The compubox numbers were way off, but Joe pressured Hopkins much more intelligently than I thought he would, instead of throwing 1000 punches, which would be a good way of getting knocked out, he was more selective and flurried in the corner then backed away. Not either fighter's best performance, but still pretty impressive at their age. I would have to say 5 years ago Hopkins beats Joe very convincingly.

i personally think hopkins did enough to make it a draw, not sure if he threw enough to justify the win......he did make joe fight poorly and look ordinary though, that could have tipped it for him

      ill put up a poll
Yes it was fair if you were watching Olympic (tag) boxing. It was dead on.

anyone who knows anything knows that hopkins was robbed....................calzaghe looked and fought like an amateur, it was all biased academics........ just like the taylor fights with hopkins, plain and simple. countless times i've watched all those fights and i still see taylor and calzaghe losing to hopkins, never hitting him clean and never having him hurt or in a vulnerable position, when hopkins hurt both and had them reeling, how the hell do you win over a guy that has basically made you look sub-par. i know, bull**** boxing politics...............nuff said.

'b-hop was robbed ' what a joke. Watch fights without a total bias next time.

Joe's career is simply better than Hopkins's from beginning to end.

Hop never would have touched him.

after rewatching i found fight closer than first time.
115-113 calzaghe. i can see why some hop fans would say draw.
man cortez letting hopkins lead with his 45 caliber head.
                    pavlik beware!!! Yikes

                      yahoo: hopkins
                      espn: hopkins
                      even bbc: hopkins

hopkins shouldve thrown more late but that was a terrible decision.....one thing i will give joe credit for that most fighters dont know how to do is adjusting and knowing that all he had to do to trick the judges into thinking he was landing shots was speed up the pace

everybody that thinks joe won is either a) from europe or b) offended by what hopkins said
