P4P Best: Roy Jones Jr or Sugar Ray Leonard?

Its not that Roy doesnt have some real good names on his resume... but compared to other ATG's he deosnt quiiiiiite stack up to their competition, but I think he makes up for it, by being a multiple weight champion... going from MW to HW back down to LHW speaks a lot for a resume...
Jones has the talent to beat any fighter in history though and he has a terrific Boxing brain people tend to overlook that aswellComment

Jones has fought a lot of past world titlists though. Glen Johnson, Tarver, Harding, Woods, Gonzalez etc. but it definitely doesn't stack up to Leonard's.Last edited by Silencers; 08-14-2008, 11:11 AM.Comment

I think people underate Roy at times because he didn't always fight the best competition. In other words, they look at who Roy and think it wasn't that he was that good, his competition was just that bad. I honestly don't think thats true, even if he faught more great fighters, I think in his prime he was really was great.Comment

Leonard has definitely beaten the better opposition, there's no doubt about that, you forgot about Benitez. Ayub Kalule was a pretty good fighter as well.

Jones had the talent and ability to beat possibly everyone (pound for pound) throughout history but you cannot, I repeat, CANNOT place him above Leonard who beat the better opposition.
Ironically, save for the mainstream clout, Leonard and Jones were quite similar. Another irony is that Leonard lost it far earlier than Jones did. I wonder how these new fans would take that now.Comment

I think Roy's win over Montell Griffin is impressive. When you think about it, Griffin gave a prime Roy trouble. Then he gave James Toney trouble. For Roy to starch him in under 3 mins, that to me say something. Griffin is a legend was no bum.Comment
